The Inevitable Velvet Revolver Discussion

By now, I'm sure you are well aware of the Velvet Revolver saga. Scott Weiland left the band to reunite with Stone Temple Pilots and now the remaining members of Velvet Revolver (*cough* Guns n' Roses *cough*) are looking for a new singer. I don't know who that singer should be and quite frankly I don't have any good guesses. For our purposes today, we'll just discuss the current VR catalog.

I was at the library last night and saw Libertad on the shelf. I never got around to picking up the disc, so I decided to take it home for a listen. I have to admit, Libertad  isn't as good as Contraband, but it's still decent. I *love* the song "Fall to Pieces" from Contraband. It's a great ballad and Slash has great guitar tone. Actually, he has a great tone on all of Contraband.

I've always thought of Velvet Revolver as a Glam band. They are not nu-metal, but certainly are modern rock. The tunes have a definite Glam throwback while still sounding fresh. I know Scott Weiland's voice grates on some people, but I still think in this instance, he became a "Glam" artist. No, Glam doesn't always mean spandex pants, eye liner or teased hair. It has a lot to do with music, lyrics, tone and soul.

one problem i had was with his lyrics. okay, we get it, you're a junkie, can you write about anything else? so anyway, no people, axl will not be joining vr in a million years. it will not happen so stop wishing. i agree about libertad not being as good but i do hope they find a good singer. they can still put out relevant music if they do so. perhaps they can pull a "journey" and check out youtube.........

Here's my guess. In about 10 months, the only thing Scott Weiland will be singing is "the blues" to like 8 other junkies in yet another re-hab facility...

I think they should get some one totally different and make their sound more straight forward sleeze rock. My suggestions, maybe Jason Mcmaster, or Gizzy from Love/Hate! That band has so much potential to bring glam back!! Sorry, had to use it, it was so appropriate!

I agree that the first cd was better. However the song on the Fantastic Four soundtrack "Come on, Come In" should have gotten more of a push. It Rocks.

They need to audition former Cats in Boots & Heavy Bones vocalist Joel Ellis.

I'm glad Scott is gone. He was the weak link. "Contraband" was great. "Libertad" had a couple of good songs. I hated how they had to cater to Weiland for this album. They even had to use his producer, who cut their balls off.
I've been saying I wish they would get James Hart (former lead singer for Eighteen Visions) since "Libertad" was released, but he has a new band called Burn Halo.
I'm sure they'll make the right decision this time.

... I have nothing good to say about any of them. Seriously. Hate me now but I think Slash is kinda overated and Scott Weiland has always been nothing more than a B-lister at best. His best stuff was early on with STP. Now it's all Junkie, Junkie, Junkie... WE GET IT ALREADY! YOU'RE A FUCKING JUNKIE!

How pathetic. Nobody has been able to pull it off quite as well as Keith, not even Nikki...

Matt was best in The Cult and Duff is, well, Duff. Oh, yeah and then there's the unknown guy in the band...

Ok, so maybe I'm harsh but I'm just over it already.

I HATE HATE HATE Scott Weiland. What a mistake that was in the first place, Their singer should of been Buckcherry's Josh Todd. My sources have told me that their new frontman will be former 18 Visions vocalist James Hart. Which would be ok.

I think Velvet Revolver had some good songs. I have their first disc, "Contraband". My fav songs are; Fall To Pieces", "Slither", and "Set Me Free".

It will be interesting to see who they get.

I hope your sources are right Kenny Ozz. I've been driving my friends crazy since I heard Eighteen Visions broke up, saying I would love to hear James Hart sing for VR. The last EV album was great. It was so catchy. His new Burn Halo songs are good too.
He could pull off all the VR songs and take them to a new level.

Whoever it is, it won't be Sammy Hagar. OK, so no one was saying it would be, but Sammy and Slash were talking about a supergroup gig back before VR started and VH rehired Sammy for the bonus tracks on BOBW. Now Sammy has a new supergroup with Mike Anthony, Joe Satriani and ...crap, can't remember the drummer. Oh well.

I completely disagree ,Libertad was a way better album than contraband.
much better songwriting and seemed much more of a total band effort.Replacing Weiland's sense of melody is probably their toughest hurdle.I'm sure they'll find a great singer but it'll be a totally different band
