New Acura Ad Features Motorhead

The ad agency MullenLowe just released the new campaign for Acura's RDX. I caught the ad during Game 3 of the NBA Finals last night. I was struck by the use of Motorhead covering the Rolling Stones classic "Sympathy for the Devil." A powerful ad - great to hear Lemmy's voice! The song is from Motorhead's final album, Bad Magic.

Love Lemmy,

Below is a link to how Oslo paid tribute to Lemmy at their city center shortly after he passed. Electricity, the song that was chimed is about (IMO) what music does to your soul and how man made religion and all it’s business and hypocrisy can’t compare. Lemmy would surely have approved.

Whoever chose that song to play albeit instrumentally must’ve been a huge Motörhead fan!

Most of you know my tortured relationship with these sorts of things (favorite living or dead bands and their music being used, well or not, to sell products). I realize that I am outlier on this one (cranky today, perhaps, as well). With that said, I will try to make lemons out of lemonade:

"Ace of Spades" (promo for the nightclub in Sacramento that hosted pre-parties for Aftershock in years past)

"Killed by Death"/"Love Me Forever" (promo for your local mortuary/crematorium)

"Deaf Forever" (promo for Miracle Ear)

"Stay Clean" (promo for your local rehab center)

"Love Me Like a Reptile" (promo for local pet shop)

"Going to Brazil" (promo for Expedia)

"The Chase is Better than the Catch" (promo for catch-and-release hunting/fishing guide)

And (two) last but not least (and somewhat related). . .

"Orgasmatron" (promo for adameve.com)

"Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me" (promo for Woody Allen documentary)

Either someone at MullenLowe, or the client, is a total Metalhead. They also did that mini-van ad featuring Judas Priest Allyson featured here when it first debuted.

Woo this guy's voice is horrible! Way to butcher a great song. I guess the original must've been too expensive. This guy hits the note about 20%of the time. This is a real group?
