Farewell Ric Ocasek

Cars frontman Ric Ocasek has died. He was found unresponsive in his New York home by his wife last night. Ric's death is apparently from natural causes.

This one is a shock. Rockers immediately began commenting on Ric's passing via social media.

Ocasek was a true Rock & Roll genius and futurist.

I knew in the first 5 seconds of hearing it, “Just What I Needed” was going to be a massive hit and that whole 1st album is ALL killer, no filler!!!

God Bless & God Speed, Ric!

Huge loss. Ric was a huge part of what made the ‘80’s rock. For that we are thankful.

Truth, by all! Ocasek and the Cars were extremely talented and their music will absolutely live on forever! They were so original and there was never another band like them, and there never will be another. RIP Ric Ocasek & The Cars

I will never, and i do mean never forget hearing "Let the Good times Roll" for the first time in 1978. That distorted guitar and that descending percussive synth hit on the offbeat already had me hooked, but then in comes Ocasek, pronouncing almost every TH as if it is a T, and selling that stilted vocal delivery, sounding almost like a futuristic robot..."Let tuh good tieeems rooull. Let tem knock you ay-roound." I was blown away and bought the album the next day. Those first two Cars albums especially were pure rock genius, and so innovative. Let's hope that Ric has already found Eddie Money, and they're jamming together as I write this.

One other thing about Ocasek, perhaps the main thing ... The man was a poet.

Read the lyrics. So cool, clever, sophisticated and beautiful, unlike 99.999 % of the rest of the music playing during that era.

In some ways, his songwriting is untoppable!

No MB, its stoppable now, unfortunately. & there will never be another like them! :(
