Giving "Balls to the Wall" Another Shot

Today's post is just for my friend Christian. He's a regular here. He was with me at Rocklahoma and some of you met him. He knows more about Metal than anyone I've ever met. He also sent me a very thoughtful Christmas gift. In honor of that gift, I've decided to give Accept another shot. See, Christian, Christmas really does come early to good little Metal boys and girls!

Truth be told, I don't really like Accept. I despise the song "Balls to the Wall" and this baffles Christian. It might baffle you too, but I just don't get the song. Now, I'm not denying Accept's place in Metal history. I'm also not denying Udo Dirkschneider's ability when it comes to singing. And, no matter how much I dislike "Balls to the Wall," Accept will never suck as much as Hinder. Actually, I feel dirty even mentioning Hinder and Accept in the same sentence. Anyway, I've decided to give both Accept and "Balls to the Wall" a second chance. Perhaps Christian will then give George Michael a fair shake.

All this taken into account, I'll admit I'd like to see Accept live. I think seeing the band in action would make me appreciate the songs more. Perhaps a few more reunion shows (with the classic lineup), maybe a U.S. festival or two? Who knows? At any rate, here's "Balls to the Wall" live in Japan, sometime back in the day.

*blush* You're welcome. What did you think of it tho, you didn't say.

Actually, I think you hsould give The Angels (Angel City) a fair shot. Mr Damage is my favourite Angels song.

Well ya know Allyson, "Balls to the Wall" is not Accept's only song! It's definately not my favorite song from them by a long shot....
You should check out the song, Midnight Mover! ;)

Was never really much of a fan but i did like a couple of tracks off 'russian roulette'

I thought Russian Roulette was close to their weakest, but I love the title track and monster man. It's too commercial. I love songs like 'princess of the dawn', 'metal heart', 'fast as a shark', 'burning' and 'son of a bitch'.

Hello Allyson,

I am not into Accept either, I just have a question for you, with all the respect, because even I desagree sometimes with you, I highly apreciate your work on that blog.
What is your real problem with Hinder?...I mean you seem to have so much hate for them, is there any special reason?..I am just curious...

;))

Why do people only remember Balls To The Wall when they think about Accept?!?! Hasn't anybody heard Midnight Mover?! It is seriously their best song! The solo is awesome

I don't like Accept myself that much. Of course they are great and deserve the recognition they get, but I often have a bit of a trouble with bands from the early 80's. I started listening to hard rock/metal in the late 80's and I have a much better connection to the style of that time.

My wish for 2009: Allyson stops mentioning her hate for Hinder in every damn post she writes. The joke is getting old fast and I never thought you are even able for such childish behavior. If I don't like a band, then I don't listen to them and I ignore them. I don't beat on them forever. :(

Accept is almost iconic.

Even Hinder did a cover version of one of Accept's most famous songs... I think... At least I know if you google "Balls On My Chin" a picture of Hinder comes up...

^ I'm not even a Hinder fan myself, but still, I agree with what Xandra73 said... It's very childish to keep on bashing a band and making fun of them. If you don't like them, fine. Just move on....

Hi Allyson,
I actually like Accept quite a bit, but UDO's voice is one that has to grow on you. If you want to hear an Accept CD with a glammier sound, you ought to check out their CD "Eat the Heat" with David Reece (Bangalore Choir) as a singer. Accept fans probably cringed when this CD came out but I like it pretty well.
Is NOT!!!

Sez YOU!!!

Ah, come on, people... Stop being so serious. Good God. I'm sure that poor little Hinder isn't losing any sleep over the "bashing" they get here...

Childish my ass. And again - and you long time readers should already know this - this is Allyson's site and she can pretty much do or say whatever she wants.

Would it make you happy if some other band was bashed?
Ok.. The Oak Ridge Boys SUCK!!! I googled "hairy old men/Elvira" and a picture of the Oak Ridge Boys showed up...

Accept sucks. They are the definition of what is/was wrong with heavy metal. Hinder must not of allowed you backstage. Geez give it a rest.

@Valentine: I can't stand people who can't stop bashing bands. Allyson never did that before, I guess that's why I am so irritated. It makes coming here less and less interesting, which is sad because I love this place. :(

There's something wrong with heavy metal ? Accept rules, sorry. They own Hinder.

I dig Accept and dig UDO's voice. Metal Heart is the best Accept disc, IMO. Bound to Fail is awesome.

Ok this has nothing to do with the article, but I'm pretty sure that Slash's date of birth is July 23, 1965.

I've never cared much for Accept, but I love Hinder.

Hey, Todd, has been a long time, but I think of you every time I listen to 'Don't Close Your Eyes' - the best ballad of all time. Here's hoping we catch up at some shows next year.
