Nickelback/Buckcherry/Three Days Grace Show Review

On Friday, the Glam husband and I headed south to Lexington, Kentucky to catch Nickelback/Buckcherry/Three Days Grace in concert on the Dark Horse tour. I won tickets from a Twitter contest.

The show was great! Buckcherry were loads of fun as always. Josh Todd was a little sluggish at the onset, but he got going and the show's momentum carried him through. Three Days Grace were good, too. I missed half their set because I wanted a Diet Coke. Silly mistake on my part, I guess. I've never been in such a slow concession line. I digress.

To be honest, I wasn't at the show for Buckcherry or Three Days Grace. I've seen both bands a total of eight combined times this year. I'd never seen Nickelback and I was excited to add another band on my "must see" list.

I honestly don't get why people hate on Nickelback, but whatever. I like them and that's all that matters to me. And Nickelback plays a long set with lots of pyro. Very Glam! In fact, there were tons of Glam references during their set. The music before Nickelback was Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Guns n' Roses.

Here's the setlist:

  • Burn It to the Ground
  • Flat On The Floor
  • Photograph
  • Savin' Me
  • Shakin' Hands
  • Something in Your Mouth
  • This Afternoon
  • Friends In Low Places
  • If Today Was Your Last Day
  • Don't Stop Believing
  • Rockstar
  • Animals
  • Drum Solo
  • Another Brick in the Wall
  • How You Remind Me
  • Too Bad
  • Gotta Be Somebody
  • Wanted Dead or Alive
  • Someday
  • Figured You Out
  •

My favorite parts of the show included all the pyro at the end and beginning (there was lots in the middle, too). During "Rockstar," a giant screen projected images of credentials of 80s bands like Bon Jovi and W.A.S.P.  I was really hoping Nickelback would do "Side of a Bullet" but that's okay - maybe next time. In all honesty, I would easily put this show in my top five concerts of all time. Nickelback were high energy and you know what? The band members honestly looked like they were having a good time.  All the audience members were having a blast too. Everyone was standing and dancing. That was something good to see.

Too bad I didn't get a freebie from the T-shirt canons. The merch was too expensive for my blood.

Flame away. But don't knock it 'til you try it.

I get why people hate on Nickelback. Chad Kroeger comes across like an ego-maniacal douchebag and their lyrics are lowest-common-denominator sort of stuff.

But that said, I like them. They are a strong rock band who write catchy songs, and they put on a great live show.

I love burn it to the ground great song but that new single that sounds very country (nu-country more specific) really doesn't work for me. They seem pretty generic nin the lyric department as Bryon stated. But then again what other lyrics are there in pop music today (thats what nickelback is mostly) other than "the floor, shortie, etc, that they can use for "rock songs"

I agree Allyson; I've seen Nickelback 3 times within the last year and a half and they put on the type of show that the great bands of the '80's used to do.

I don't follow Nickelback very closely, but it looks like they played a lot of cover songs. Or they have song titles with names very similar to some other famous songs.
You had a good time is what is important. Thanks for the review.

    Argh!

    That dude is so U-N-R-O-C-K!

Too bad the rest of the band has to unknowingly suffer through it, too!

C'mon, you know Buckcherry blowz Nickelback's frickin' doors off!

Metalboy is dead-on, as usual. I cant believe anybody is into this pre-packaged wanna-be arena rock garbage. Look at the set list. Is that like 3-5 covers I see? LAME! These guys playing after Buckcherry is a crime. Allyson were just gonna have to agree to disagree hunn. But Hinder CRUSHES these clowns, hands down.

They rock if compared Justin Bieber. HA!! Still Burn it to the ground is a good song, good riff. About the covers, a friend of mine showed me some footage of them covering sad but true by metallica and he tried to convince me that it sounded goo.

THEY DIDN'T EVEN PLAY A 1/4 OF THE SONG!!!! And tell me that they didn't cover Journey's don't stop believing! We had to play Photograph for homecoming my junior year and It became a running joke. Marching band and That song go to together like smart car at a monster truck rally.

I believe we have some confusion on this thread, more than normal, but I digress, lol. Nickelcrap has an original song called 'photograph', its not a Def Leppard cover.

Argh! Nickelhack has to cop other band's song titles, too?! Man, they really are a joke!

Thanks for the clarification, Kenny O!

    Shadow! What you thinkin', boy?

You know full well Metalboy! thought you meant Def Lep's "Photograph"!

Now apologize right now to Kenny O for makin' him have to lift his fingers to the keyboard to set the record straight!

C'mon, Shad! What did I just say about Nickelhack before that... They frickin' bite one!

p.s. Kenny O... Did you check out Brass Kitten? I highly recommend both albums, as does Al. Right up your alley, Bro! And if you know what's good for you, Shadow, you'll pick 'em up, too! Ciao!
