Buckcherry, 'Dead' -- New Video

Have you caught the new Buckcherry video for “Dead” yet? It came out last month but somehow I missed it. I came across the video by accident last night. It's okay, but not great. I think the live shots were captured on Buckcherry's recent run with Nickelback. “Dead” is from the album All Night Long.

Theez boyz are frickin' stupendous.

Let's face it...

They've done more to Bring Back Glam than any other band.

They brought it back in 1999 with "Lit Up" and have never looked back.

Though this song is awesome, it's true, the video is a little lame. It's something that's always plagued many rock vidz -- the director thinks there needs to be a story played by actors as a subtext to the subject of the song.

At least that's how they sell it to the band and the record company.

Really it's just an excuse to get some lifestyle stuff on their reel so they can do some commercials and in this case, some "teen flicks"...

Here it looks like some kind of fantasized version of Buckcherry's story -- The "kids" in the vid are supposed to symbolize the formation of Buckcherry in the garage.

What would be cooler is the band just playin' some cool scene themselves. The old formula of showing a band back when they were kidz is overought and has never really worked as it usually comes off cheesy and disingenuous, though I will say, it worked to great effect for Van Halen in their classic "Hot For Teacher" vid.

But the biggest problem isn't with the video. It lies within the lyrics of the song.

I mean, seriously?...

"We are committed. We are hungry. We are strong."

Sounds like a mantra at a corporate retreat pep talk.

But the stunning "Freebird"ish dual lead at the end saves it.

My God, this song ROCKS and Buckcherry just burns!

Now if they could just spend a little more time writing lyrics worthy of their music.

You know they have it in 'em.

i will tell you why this video is great. It brings back the days of actually forming a band with your buddies in a garage and rocking out, rather than being put together by a suit from a record company. There is no more originality in music anymore...it has all been done. to me, buckcherry is the last real rock n roll band to come out in the last 10 years and i personally do not think another one will. I raise my horns to you!
