'American Idol' Apologizes for Steven Tyler and I Get Pissed

As you well know by now, Steven Tyler is a judge for American Idol this season. As I predicted weeks ago, he's actually pretty darn good at being a judge. After all, he's been a performer for decades - and he sure can sing. He doesn't cut down hopefuls - even when they are clearly horrid and have no business auditioning for a vocal competition. So, color me stunned when I tuned into Idol last night and found the beginning of the show start with the words “Mr. Tyler has been warned and assures us it will never happen again.”

Okay then. I started thinking really hard. I've seen every episode of Idol so far this season. Nothing out of the ordinary has happened. It's the same as it always is in this part of the show: audition after audition. Some good, some bad and Ryan Seacrest giggles. So why are the producing making a scapegoat out of Steven?

The show wore on and I got more and more angry. For years, I watched Simon Cowell cut down hopeful after hopeful and many of his comments were plain mean - and everyone loved it! Now, Steven makes reported "facial expressions" and odd comments and he gets a reprimand? Please. It's a double standard of rock n' roll proportions.

I'm all for apologies when someone is in the wrong. Since it was a public apology, issued by the American Idol producers, this means the "offensive act" must have happened on the show. And yet, I reiterate, I saw nothing.

The only reason I'm watching Idol this season is for Steven. If the produces try to shut him up and minimize his role, I'll stop watching. I suspect I won't be the only one. The show has falling ratings so the last thing the producers need is a viewer boycott.

I maintain the hope that Aerosmith will perform live on the show this season.

So far as I can see (from skimming other news sites - I don't watch American Idol), the apology referred to his ALLUSION to the F-word and his tendency to be a bit flirty...

I think next week he should go on in a T-shirt which reads "I'm Steven F*cking Tyler, baby! Show us yer tits!" Some people need a sense-of-humor transplant.

What's more appalling is that people spend years watching American Idol and deriving vicarious sadistic pleasure in watching weepy, dreamy-eyed teenagers getting publicly humiliated... and then get all precious when one of the judges mouths a naughty word. So cruelty is okay but sex isn't? That makes me very sad for humanity.

Ok, after perusing through some stuff, (obviously i can pick up Idol in Austria), I have come to the conclusion that this could be one of the stupidest moves they could have made! When you sign the guy you know what your getting! The thing is the getting is god i laughed my ass off on some those commments he made!

This just seems like another typcial P.C. hyporcritical move by network tv. You can do this if your this but if your this you can't do what that guy does cuz your not him.

Oh yeah and I'm all for that shirt Kiki!

i hope the rest of the band refuse to play - all these idol show suck and steven has went down in my estimations for doing the show in the first place.

Relax everyone. This "apology" was a joke, a poorly-executed publicity stunt. Remember, all Idol shows so far this season have been recorded. If the producers really had a problem with certain aspects of Tyler's behavior, they simply would have edited those questionable moments out.

Like Ally, I too have only watched Idol because of Steven. When I saw the intro, at first I thought maybe he did do something totally off the wall that wasn't shown. After seeing the "...read my lips" clip, I knew it was just a joke that wasn't all that funny.

I think we're gonna see Steven and sadly, JoLo perform this year. HOPEFULLY the finale will have Aerosmith play! I'd much rather see Steven with at t-shirt that reads ---->That's Joe FUCKING Perry!

To be honest, I don't understand the outrage. Sure, I understand that American Idol knew what they were getting into with Tyler, but at the same time, Tyler & his fans knew what he was getting into with Idol. It's a network broadcast show targeted to mainstream America. It's not rock 'n roll and it's not edgy and if you're expecting it to be so, I think you'll be disappointed.

F AMERICAN IDOL! I have never supported the damn show,and I won't start now for reasons just as this (even with Tyler on the panel)! HELLO,he's considered one of the best frontman of all time, if not THE best!! TYLER has earned every right to say whatever he feels or make any facial expression he damn well wants to. WOW, unreal that the show would do that!

I have been watching all season and haven't noticed him do anything bad, except when he was hitting on that underage girl in the auditions. Anyway, I think the "apology" thing was just a dumb joke.
