For Metalboy! - Meet Sweden's Danger Avenue

We all love Sweden rock. After all, these days, Sweden = Glam. So when our own Metalboy! found Danger Avenue, he just had to share the Sweden rockers. He emailed me about the band and also left some comments on this site about them, so of course I had to investigate.

Danger Avenue are pretty cool. The band formed in 2004 in Sweden and they consider their genre "melodic rock." I would agree they are not 100% Glam because there are some definite AOR components to their sound, but still, the guitar solos are there. Danger Avenue say they are influenced by KISS, the Scorpions and Queen.

When it was time for Danger Avenue to release a full-length album, the band members called on producer Roberth Olausson. He has worked with Hardcore Superstar. So, the album Long Overdue is out and it has big hooks and solos. Some of the song lyrics are a bit lacking, but the band has true room for growth and that is key: that means there is talent. They just need to be careful and not get sucked into the whole "modern radio-rock" vortex. Check it out and you be the judge:

Sounds like bubble gum pop to me, hey ,hey were the monkees.

I-Yi-Yi! Capt!

How could anyone not LUV this band?

But then again, I love The Monkees!

Bubblegum Metal! Awesome!

I bet even the meanest Hells Angel would melt listening to this album!

Slayer fans, hmmm. Guess not. Betcha Ozzie would like 'em though because he's a Beatles freak!

And, Al, what the h*ll?! "Pretty good" and "song lyrics are a bit lacking" are no way to describe the album of the Summer and my bet for Best Album Of 2011!

p.s. Hats off to Metal Mike, who has much better knowledge about great Rock'n'Roll than me!

Clarification: Metal Mike, a friend of mine, is the one who turned me onto Danger Avenue.

Mark my words: This is The Album of The Summer and has my vote for Best Album of The Year!

Well, Capt., at least Al, Jean Jeanie and Gary know what REAL Rock'n'Roll is!

Where the h*ll is everyone?! Kenny O?! Kari?! Sweet Lou?! Kik?! Xandra?! Archie?! Shadow?! Nirvanas?! Huh-uh-lo-oh! Huh-uh-lo-oh-oh-oh, echo, echo, echo !!!... I thought we'd have 92 hits by now since we are talking about the Greatest New Band Discovery in years!

Oh, that's right, it's Friday. Oh, yeah, it's Friday! Time to Party with Danger Avenue!

For real, I haven't been this excited about a band (can't you tell) since Darkness. And Danger Avenue just might be better!

Trust me, if you like REAL Rock'n'Roll, this album is all killah, no fillah!

I like their jackets.

Love the Monkee's but I'm not interested in the trip down Danger Ave.

OTSDNK! Only The Shadow Does Not Know! Is this revenge for me thinking Maiden is mediocre?! Back to the LION's den with you!

Sweet Lou! That's it?! You can't fool me. You know you love 'em and not just their jackets, which are frickin' cool, too, actually.

You guys wouldn't know "Hip" if you had it replaced! You know they're great, you're just sayin' this stuff to torture me. Plus, c'mon, these vids are KILLARIOUS!

And GEO, go ahead and pass and get passed by on Danger Boulevard! Go ahead now! Go on your merry way off on your Death Metal Deathtrip with your buddy Capt!

You watch! Mark my words! These guys are gonna be HUGE! Trust me, get the album and check out the vid on YouTube of 'em performing 2 songs at a club called "Sticky Fingers", I guess in Sweden somewhere.

I not only hear their "influences" they claim (not so much Scorps, but I think they're just kiddin' on that one) but many more... plus a strong AC/DC influence underneath it all. That's called Hard Rock, boyz. Don't let their ability to make melodies and harmonize trip you up. That's what makes 'em stand apart from the rest of the crap being put out today.

***** Okay, since none of you "regulars" except Al, Gary and Jean Jeanie "get it" when it comes to Danger Avenue, here are some "lost" comments I made yesterday morning that I just found on my other computer and forgot to put up in the "comments" of one of the most important posts Al's ever made! At the time I made them only Jean Jeanie and a "spam" entry from T-Mobile had found their way into the comments section.
H*ll, if no one else is going to comment positively, I might as well pile on the kudos myself! Someone has to come to the rescue on Danger Avenue!*****

9:30 A.M. Friday Morning, April 22nd, 2011...

Wait a minute!

I hadn't seen these videos until this post!

Now, I HATE 'em!

Just kiddin'!

Actually, I think these videos, this being the first time I've seen 'em, are absolutely KILLARIOUS!

Where the h*ll is everybody?! Duzn't everyone go on BBG! first thing when they wake up (before they go and pretend to actually work) to comment on Allyson's next great post! It's already 9:33 a.m. EST, as I write this!

Usually I see what she's posted at midnite and then dream my comments and post 'em in the A.M. If you don't see me commenting it's usually because I was out late saving Metal Damsels In Distress or wound up dreaming I was and therefor couldn't dream my comments so I couldn't post 'em.

Anyway, I was expecting 92 positive comments by now (and not all from me, hahaha!!!) about this phenomenal band.

INHO, Best album since Darkness and maybe even better. Seriously, I haven't been this excited about an album since Guns'n'Roses "Appetite For Destruction", hahaha!!!

As far as "pretty cool" and "lyrics being a bit lacking"... Au Contraire! Huh-uh-lo-oh! What's cooler or more lyrical than words like "...faster than global warming melting the ice..."!

I suggest you LISTEN to the whole album. Sure, there might be something lost in the translation, but these guys are reaching higher than most bands today, lyrics-wise AND music-sise!

Hey, and at least a major corporation and Jean Jeanie like 'em!

p.s. Hat's off to my friend, METAL MIKE from Utah, who is the one who told me about this incredible band! He knows WAY more about Metal and Hard Rock than I do and always knows about a great band 5 seconds after their album comes out!

p.s.s.t. Al! Thanks for plastering my name all over this post! NOT! How embarrassing! I figure it's revenge for me thinking Jacob was going to get voted off IDOL last night!

p.s.s.s.t. Get the WHOLE Danger Avenue album! Not a dud on it! All killah, no fillah! Meet Danger Avenue, THE Next Big Thing! REAL ROCK'n'ROLL!!!

And now I see Reptiles are on the endangered species list on Danger Avenue!

Where is the love?

Christian? Brian C.? Christine Sixx? Gator? Help! It's treacherous on Danger Avenue!
April 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Metal boy- You are taking this WAY too personally. Music is subjective and because we don't agree, does not make it good or bad. I don't like it. As far as the "death metal deathtrip", I don't listen to anything close to death metal. Poison is my all time favorite band. Think abouth how much crap I've taken saying that since I was 12 years old. If you like them, great. Don't take it personally that others don't.
April 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGEO II
Aw! B.S., GEO! You and Reptile are just rainin' on my Rock'n'Roll Parade!

I LOVE Poison, too! But they're a frickin' joke, too! One REAL album is all we got from them, dude, "Look What The Cat Dragged In" and it was purely by accident, obviously. The rest was pure calculated artifice.

These guys are clever because they're disguising their genuineness in artifice -- huh-uh-lo-oh! The corny jackets. The tongue-in-cheek words. The goofball videos. But underneath it all is a REAL AUTHENTIC Rock'n'Roll band. Can't believe you don't get the joke. They are spoofing late 70's/early 80's AOR and Melodic Rock. At the same time, they are serving up great music and though the lyrics are tongue-in-cheek, they are clever. They LOVE what they're spoofing.

Do you know what humor is? Check. Do you know what irony is? Check. Huh-uh-lo-oh? Echo... Echo... Echo...

Look, as much as I really DO love 'em, what can we really say about Poison? Steal a bunch of make-up and riffs from The New York Dolls, turn 'em up to 11, write some simpleton lyrics aimed at 5th Graders, get Capitol and Tom Werman to package it all up for ya real nice for mass consumption and SUCCESS! LCD!

Don't get me wrong, I'm as much of a sucker for packaged up Pop Metal as the next person but these guys are going much deeper with their concept. It's clever, it's INTELLIGENT (maybe that's where we're having the disconnect here), it's fun and it ROCKS!

What's the problem? Not enough "Hot Cross Buns" song structures and E-chord sustain for ya?

Yeah, nothing personal, it might just be an IQ Gap we're experiencing here or something. I'll go with Jean Jeanie and Gary. They get it.

I say all the time music is subjective. I just find it hard to believe YOU can actually say you just don't like 'em, GEO II, without givin' 'em a chance.

You should check out their 2-song video "Danger Avenue LIVE at Sticky Fingers Oct 2009" and listen to their ENTIRE album BEFORE you pass final judgement! Haven't you ever gotten into a band after a few listens when you initially didn't like 'em?

p.s. Danger Avenue's videos are way more clever than any Poison video except maybe "Talk Dirty To Me". If you still don't appreciate 'em, so be it. Just watch out on Danger Avenue! Must get away from the Kryptonite! Lois! Lois!

Hey guys,
Glad to hear that our album has reached the States! (Just saw that our american distributor Wishing Well Entertainment, http://www.wishingwellonline.com, has got the album and t-shirts)
We´re really proud of the album, and we´re glad that it´s out there and that people are giving it a spin!
Maybe some of the lyrics could have been better, but I do think that most of the songs have a serious message that really speaks to most people... We´re not just goofing around like The Darkness (I love them though, excellent band!), but the element of fun and just having a good time needs to be there!
We are currently working on new material, and hopefully we´ll enter the studio in a couple of months to record our second album!

By the way, we´re not that proud of the Sticky Fingers live video, it´s just out of tune and not as good as we would like it to be...
Next saturday we´ll be releasing the album on vinyl, hopefully there will be videos up from that show!

For the latest news, check us out on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/#!/dangeravenue

Cheers!
Viktor, bass player in Danger Avenue.

Whoa!
April 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
You're right, Metalboy. Poison sucks. I will just listen to everything that you like, so that I won't have my intelligence questioned anymore. Danger Avenue is the best band ever & if anyone doesn't agree with me, I will insult them too. Grow up.
April 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGEO II
Didn't say Poison suxx. What I was really tryin' to say is Poison's been mailing it in ever since "Look What The Cat Dragged In". You don't have to agree with me, but it is so painfully obvious.

Meanwhile, back on Danger Avenue. Think out of your box, GEO II. These guyz are awesome! Just listen to the whole album. Don't be like that old dude in the first video.
April 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
I listened to 3 songs and threw up in my mouth a little. Not my style but I've also heard worse. I don't mind bubblegum to a point but these were not good in my opinion. But hey, if you like them, listen to them. We all have our own tastes. Good luck to Danger Avenue.
April 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGreg
You guyz are killarious! You're just sayin' it to say it cuz you know it's gonna bug me. Be true to your ears. Forget about my unbridled fandom. You know that I know that you know they're great. C'mon, everybody! Take a stroll down Danger Avenue!

Welcome to REAL Rock'n'Roll!
April 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Upon re-listening and re-watching their video...the jackets now suck too! hahahahaha.
Keep rockin' Metalboy! I just don't dig em and I'm watching Idol AND The Voice and find those more enjoyable. I would rather be subjected to NORTH Avenue in Baltimore than this Danger Avenue of Sweden hahahahaha.
