The Tyler/Underwood ACM Awards Duet Was Awesome

I am not really a fun of country music so I didn't watch the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards on Sunday night. Then I got to work yesterday and nearly all my coworkers flipped on me, asking "How could I miss the awesome duet with Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler?!" And then our friend Kari emailed me about it a few times. And then I got some text messages...so when I finally had time, I looked up the performance on YouTube. It rocks! I'm sad I missed it live. I am a Carrie Underwood fan, all the way back to the American Idol days. I mean, I voted for Carrie every week when she was on Idol and it is not surprising to me that she is the most successful Idol alum by far. Plus, the girl loves her 80s Glam - and a duet with Steven Tyler was probably really special for her.

I do love my GLAM and ROCK, but I’m also proud to be country music fan! I grew up with the Oak Ridge Boys, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette and the Statler Brothers on the record player in my house and the DVR was rolling for the ACM awards Sunday night. Loved the ALABAMA/Paisley opener, loved Sarah Evans, LOVED my Keith, Stoked Miranda took home numerous awards for The House That Built Me (PHENOMINAL SONG)! OVER Sugarland, OVER Lady Antebellum, Never like Taylor Swift (wasn’t surprised she got entertainer of the year though - I mean, the girl has literally been all over the world at least twice over the last year, just EVERYWHERE and well, her fans are psycho for her). Liked Eric Church’s performance! Can’t stand Reba, never have and the only exciting part of the Rhianna/Jen Nettles duet was watching NUNO on guitar; the song though – AWFUL!
Now on to the GOOD STUFF….I can probably count the number of times I’ve watched A.I. on one hand but I do tend to like a lot of the artists post show once they get their songs on the radio. I saw Carrie open for Keith Urban few years ago and she rocked I Remember You and just smoked the vocals! The girl can sing! I don’t think anyone saw the Steven Tyler surprise duet coming from miles away but WOW, it was a show stopper! (ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh do it) I think Carrie was overwhelmed with Tyler taking over her stage but that’s what he does friends! WALK THIS WAY and TYLER IS A BAD MAMAJAMA!
I think my favorite moment though was Zac Brown Band and James Taylor. I’m a BIG fan of this band and I refuse to take off the ZBB/Jimmy Buffet Crossroads off my DVR. I love the song colder weather and then when they busted out into Sweet Baby James at the end of the song, I literally got chills it was so good! You may hate country music, it isn’t for everyone, but you have to respect the passion and the songwriting that is behind this genre of music.

Having met the diminutive Ms. Underwood, I will say that Mr. Tyler is one REALLY short dude (looks like a lady).

A good song is a good song, no matter the genre'.
Same thing with singers. A good one is good no matter what type of music & both Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood are good singers.

P.S. Did anyone else spot Extreme's Axe God Nuno Bettencourt in Rhianna's back up band?

Yep, Ace. Kari did! Read her comments above.

Underwood is generic.

Tyler is an original.

Meh.. Steven gave her a singing lesson. She's nice girl and have good voice but she's nowhere near rock royality. Lizzy Hale can run cricles around Carrie with her voice
