Sammy Hagar's Birthday Bash Videos Are Online

Someday I'll get to Cabo in October and attend one of Sammy Hagar's annual Birthday Bash extravaganzas! Fans could watch the bash for free online, live while it was happening. Now the video links are up for us all to enjoy whenever we want. It's pretty cool. Watch:

Hagar confuses me (what doesn't, the peanut gallery retorts?!).

Don't really like his music (Montrose seems over-rated, solo stuff is meh, I have a clear bias when it comes to Van Halen, and I just can't get into CF).

But he seems to have fun . . . nutty, goofy fun. Doesn't give a rip what others think (save when it comes to DLR or the VH Bros.). Has some 'out there' views on life and such. Yet he always seems to be enjoying himself, all the while building up quite a catalog of business successes along the way.

I envy him that. And I actually think, if it came down to having drinks with him or DLR, Hagar would be more engaging, more personable, and just more fun. In fact, he is to Neil what Maestro Dobel is to Cabo Wabo tequila (even though all four of them will give you a headache).

Just remember, "There's Only One Way To Rock".

That alone saves him.

p.s. The first couple Montrose albums are pretty groundbreaking. YouTube 'em doing "Bad Motor Scooter" on Midnight Special. Wow. You can have that new Chickensh*t, though, as far as I'm concerned. It's Generock at it's finest.

I guess you confuse yourself quite often, HIM, since you are a Platinum Card Carrying Member of The Peanut Gallery, too.

Oh, Metalboy!, you never cease to amaze me. I mention that fact every chance I get and prove it every time I write. I would go with some sort of disclaimer, but I doubt it would past muster.

In fact, I would need different disclaimers to fit with my different styles: (a) when I agree with you; (2) when I disagree with you; (3) when I don't mention you; (4) when I retroactively agree with a lucid point you made; and (5) when I make reference to someone else (with what is normally an echo before I turn out the lights and go back to doing something else). As you can see, the orbit remains secure.

But I can take you boxing my ears every now and again (more now as of late). It serves a useful purpose. That purpose? We don't have to discuss "Bad Motor Scooter" (in the running for the least rocking rock title of all time) and we don't have to discuss "There's Only One Way to Rock" (a point on which both you and I agree isn't even possible). So how about songs that must be ironic? "Heavy Metal" perhaps? Or ones that make grandmas weep? "Dream" comes to mind (you pick: the original or "mellow" version). You see? I can take you at your word and meet you too. Again, that pesky orbit that surrounds you.

More interesting is the fact that you and I are writing at approximately the same time this fine day. I think that is a first (and we have had so many seconds, so to speak). So far apart in many ways, in agreement on some, I continue to enjoy the give-and-take.

Thanks as always.

Sammy can kick major ass when in that mode. Some examples.
1. Montrose era: Rock Candy. Wow.Right up there with early Deep Purple songs as early song riffs I HAD to learn in my formative guitar years. 8-)(I realize Ronnie is responsible for the riff)
2.Solo Sammy.Heavy Metal from the movie soundtrack is face melting riffage at it's finest.Just a kick ass tune all around
3.Mas Tequila. See #2

Let me close by saying Happy 65th Sammy. You can still bring it!!!!

Metalboy and Him...I enjoy both your posts,...both of you are good writers, commenters, posters,...hope you guys have fun without slinging mud,...as fans of this music, I'm sure it would be a good time if we had the chance to all get together and trade stories over some drinks,...and I will end this post with the fact that I saw Biters again last weekend and all I have to say about that is "without question, the Biters are America's best unsigned act out there today"... if you have the chance, go see for yourself!

Nice Compliment but, in all honesty, HIM, especially at his most lucid, can write me under the table. It's just that I'm more right than he is, hahaha!!!

Oh, Man! The Biters! Frickin' Awesome, Toddwiggy! Hailing from Atlanta, Al turned us onto this incredible band here. I'm actually tryin' to schedule a biz trip to Atlanta to coincide with a night they're playin' there!

As for Hagar... and Kari ain't gonna like this, but -- #4#, even though he has chops of steel, he just duzn't really do it for me, is all. ONE song from his solo career is an absolute masterpiece -- "There's Only One Way To Rock". You can have his Chickensh*t and Van Hagar stuff. Absolutely NONE of it duz anything for me.

However, his stuff with Montrose, particularly "Rock Candy", as Gary so adroitly points out, AND "Bad Motor Scooter", is truly CLASSIC and stands the test of time. ALL the rest of it, I'm afraid, except for the one where he lets himself "Crank up that Les Paul in your face", belongs in a "Three Lock Box"!

Still, I do wish him the Happiest of Birthdays. According to Kari and from what interviews I've seen of him (That Metal Show, etc.), he seems like a nice guy. But you know what they say about them.

p.s. And, gotta say, he's gotta be the goofiest lookin' Rockstars to ever tour the planet. And look, I'm goofy lookin', too, but I ain't a Rockstar. I know, I know, it's about the talent. Still, c'mon -- he's a goofball!

Thanks toddwiggy and thanks Metalboy! I think it would be a blast to get together some time to talk about these sorts of things.
