Kennedy Center Honors 2012 -- Led Zeppelin Tribute

This was epic. That is all.

Jack Black Introduction to Led Zeppelin
Foo Fighters performing "Rock and Roll"
Kid Rock performing "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" & "Ramble On"
Lenny Kravitz performing "Whole Lotta Love"
Heart with Jason Bonham performing "Stairway To Heaven"

Watching and hearing Heart's Anne and Nancy Wilson, and accompaniment, perform "Stairway To Heaven", the most played song in Radio History, makes you realize, just as the audience here certainly did, including our great President and Led Zeppelin themselves, just what a modern miracle that song is.

And the commentary by Jack Black and Ray Romano (the latter of which I normally do not find funny in the least) about Zeppelin is priceless. However, the Zeppelin tributes by the evening's artists other than Heart reveal just how limited those artist's talents actually are, particularly Kid Rock.

I was referring to Ann and Nancy's performance which I watched elsewhere yesterday. Haven't watched the rest of this yet.

It ALMOST did the same to me during "Stairway", Rita. And, did you see it also had the same effect on Plant, of all people, especially when you consider how belittling he's been toward his own legacy, as well?

Amazing. I got the Celebration Day Blu ray for xmas and it really brought me back. Reading the liner notes was incredible especially from Jason Bonham. Seeing Plant brought to the verge of tears makes you realize how powerful Stairway is. What a great performance from Ann and Nancy Wilson along with the choral background. Loved it!

Beautiful! Thanks Allyson! Each performance gave me a new found respect for the musician(s). Ann and Nancy can still rock. I could listen to Ann Wilson sing the phone book.

That really was amazing , plus I thought all singers did the songs justice

Carolyne -- So true about Anne Wilson. She's another Modern Miracle!

Been saying it for 30 years.Anne Wilson has, hands down, THE BEST voice in rock, male or female, IMHO. Cruise Youtube for Heart doing Zep covers (as they've done a ton of them in their live shows)You won't be dissappointed. Their cover of 'Battle Of Evermore" is heartstoppingly awesome.....

I saw 'em in 1985 at Merriweather Post Pavilion with Cheap Trick and they encored with "Rock And Roll". Needless to say they tore the roof off the place.

p.s. Fun Fact: Whoa! I didn't know this until now... Ah, the power of Google -- Merriweather Post Pavilion was designed by world renowned architect, Frank Gehry.

NOW THAT IS EPIC !!! Proper use of the term, not some duet by the Boss and Bon Jovi.

But then again I read in hear something about a great president ? Guess we are just throwing around the term great. :)

Kid Rock ~ multi talented music man across many genres of music. Lenny Kravitz ~ gifted musician who cannot be pigeonholed to one genre of music. Foo Fighters ~ possibly the best ROCK band out there.

Limited artists ??!?!?! Hahahahaha... such a short sighted comment.
January 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterGNR
Haha!! GNR! We do agree on some stuff and then your LIMITED brain power kicks in with comments like this.

I can't help it if you can't see or hear how limited their talents are compared to that of Zeppelin and the only band who could pull off a proper tribute to 'em, Heart!

And I can't help it if you don't see the GREATNESS of our President.

Almost EVERY artist is limited compared to Zeppelin. Limited is almost every Glam band. I just don't get why you choose to throw stones at some truly gifted individuals ? Just because they aren't your flavor of the day, doesn't discount who or what they are.

If you can truly think outside the narrow mindness, and ask yourself why were these "musicians" selected to honor Zeppelin ? Guess they all just punched a lottery ticket and their numbers came up.

GREAT presidents take a stand, they don't just try to remain popular. They make the hard decisions instead of pushing them off to future generations.

Oh, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, GNR. I was busy out back juggling 3 chainsaws in between target practice with my AR-15.

Our Great President IS making the hard decisions. They're just not decisions you want him to make.

You have been conned into thinking our social programs need to be cut when it's our corporations who need to be taxed. It's our wars that need to end. It's our wasteful pork spending on both sides that's got to stop.

Yes, we need to cut. But we don't need to cut stuff that helps people. That's not waste. What would Jesus cut? Would Jesus vote against Aid for Hurricane Sandy victims?

Finally, listen, man, if you can't see or hear the stark differences in talent levels between clowns like Kravitz or Rock, etc., don't let me rain on your parade.

Ar-15 ? Dont even see how that is relevant, but of course you just paint that wide stroke brush of yours to include everyone who doesn't like Obama obviously wants guns ?

It took some horrific to happen for a knee jerk reaction by our Greatness. Great people are proactive, great people get stuff done ahead of the curve.

No decision has been made on the financial ruins this country is in, all our Greatness did was push off debt further into the future. A hard decision would have been to make a balance sheet balance, to make a negative number, into a positive. But no, he kept the "middle class" happy by saying no new taxes ? Well guess what FICA got 2% more ? I'm middle class !

And of course the wide paint brush is painted that others are against social programs, that isn't the case at all. There are programs that need to be cut, there are people that need to pull their weight, but there are those that are relevant. I'm all for universal health care, its proposterous how much GREED the medical industry has. Non-profit hospitals ? That's Bullshit 101 there.

I just found it intriguing people throw around the word Great for Obama, when really he's nowhere near that 5th head on Mt Rushmore, just another puppet who'd rather have people love him, than hate him.

As for the real reason I come to this site, guess as always its just a matter of opinion when it comes to listening to music. Kid Rock isn't one of my favorites, but there is no denying the man has talent. And Lenny ? Have you ever really listened to his stuff ? Different strokes for different folks.

Yes, our President could do better but you will see... He's making the hard decisions and not as "in-the-tank" as our corrupt Congress. Keep the jury out, my friend. And get ready for some "Great" Presidential History to be made. But I realize you are a "denier", can't stand the thought of his success and therefore will never acknowledge it.

As far as cutting back social programs, I believe there are surgical cuts that can be made but in no way think we should "gut" them.

We are going to cut back like h*ll our wasteful spending on the Military which has been rigged by The Military Industrial Complex for extreme and excessive expenditures on equipment we don't need, bases we don't need and wars we don't need.

Once we get rid of these neoconic wars, we can pave OUR streets with frickin' GOLD, for all I care and we'll be able to afford it without cutting one cent from our "social programs".

I do believe in "Workfare" and we've got to get our big companies to tow their own weight in terms of what they pay their people. Most of the people you are complaining about are employed and are simply not payed enough to be able to live without food stamps. The American Taxpayer is subsidizing these companies because they won't pay those people enough to do without public assistance.

The Oil Companies do not need to be subsidized. Farmers of certain commodities do not need to be subsidized. Our President is spearheading cutting that crap out despite Tea Party (read corporate backed) Extremist Congressman holding the stuff hostage in the biggest as*kiss to the lobbyists ever.

At least we agree on Healthcare, I think.

Oh, and, yeah, Kid Rock is completely talentless which is totally evident in his clip here and Lenny is just okay and that is obvious in the clip here, as well.

Heart, well, it's pretty obvious, they are mountains above those mediocre clowns in terms of talent.

But go ahead, keep on ordering your Kool-Aid cocktail, my friend.

BTW, what happened to the drive-by's, Bro? That was a cool thing you were doing.
