Video and Audio of Guns n' Roses Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame Induction

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony came and went and now Guns n' Roses are officially in the hall. As he promised, Axl Rose didn't show, nor did Izzy Stradlin; but Slash, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler, Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke all did and they performed with the help of Myles Kennedy on vocals. The group of mixed-era Gunners performed "Mr. Brownstone," "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Paradise City."

People booed and cat-called when Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong referenced the missing Axl during his induction speech for GnR. To that point, I do think it says something when Gilby showed up to perform... and he wasn't even inducted with the band!

The full Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be televised next month on HBO.

That's all well and good Slash & Co. got back together for the induction and Clarke showed a lot of class pinch hitting for Izzy as he's always done since Stradlin checked out. But they coulda gotten Tyler, McCartney and even Dylan to sub in instead of Slash's boy of convenience, the ever increasingly annoying Miles Kennedy.

p.s. Isn't Kennedy also Slash's valet? Because of G'n'R's legacy, they coulda gotten a lot bigger to fill Axl's shoes for the performance, probably even stepping on them in the process. Lame.

Did I call it, or what?
When I said

" *In my opinion, the remaining original band members, + Gilby Clark, & Matt Sorum should play anyway, & have a special guest vocalist, Miles Kennedy sing. He's been doing Axl better than Axl could, while on tour w/ Slash.

Metalboy was dead on when he said Gilby showed a lot of class for showing up to play, even though he wasn't inducted.

That's the kind of guy Gilby is, he's always the guy to hold a band together, or in this case, to keep one from falling apart.

I've known Gilby since 1979 & had the pleasure of playing in a pickup band called "Trash" w/ him & some of the other members of his early band, "Candy", along with CC DeVille on occaision, as well.

In my opinion, Gilby should have been inducted as well. Especially since Dizzy Reed got officially inducted. And why not Teddy Andreadis as well? They ALL held it together thru the 2 year "Illusion" tours.

Anyways, congrats to Slash, Duff, Matt, & Steven for having the humbleness to get it together & do this much. And to Gilby for gluing it all together one more time.

GnR's come a long way since it was Tracii, Rob, Oly, & what's his name, the meglomaniac singer.

Yeah, but why bring in Kennedy. That's Slash thinkin' small. Tyler and others like I mentioned woulda been bigger I they coulda gotten 'em. My guess is they didn't even ask to check Tyler's availability.

Check that clip of Aerosmith and G'n'R doin' a soundcheck together from back in the day doin' "Train Kept A Rollin'"' if it's still on YouTube to get a sense of what it coulda been like.

That aside, Axl had to do was show up. They didn't even need to rehearse. He's just not professional and never was.

What a joiyk.

Metalboy: why not Kennedy? I agree that it should have been Axl instead, but he's got killer pipes, and rock star stage presence to boot. Tyler is great, but I think Kennedy's vocals fit much better with GNR.

Still, it was great to see them perform even without Axl.

Agree nice of Gilby to show but not a big stretch for him. He is from Cleveland.

Yeah, but he's not lived in Cleveland since 1978. He's acclimated to L.A. quite completely.

In my opinion, the band that played the other night should go out & do "the tour" that GnR's fans have been begging for. And don't forget to add the other person who got slighted the other night, Teddy "Zig Zag" Andreadis. A finer keyboard & harmonica player, you'll not find. Throw that group of musicians on tour & I guarantee the concert draw will at least equal what Axl's scab band is pulling in.

Gotchya, Bri, but could you imagine Tyler doin' "Welcome To The Jungle"? That woulda been huge! Listen to Tyler toward the end of the Aerotune, "Draw The Line" and tell me he couldn't out nail Kennedy. And imagine McCartney on "Live And Let Die" or Dylan on "Knockin'".

That woulda knocked the sh*t out of Axl and provided an enhanced experience for all concerned.

Hey, Ace, did you guys ever record anything when you were in Trash?
April 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Metalboy, No... "Trash" was the most fluid lineup of a band, ever. Basically, it existed because Candy/Electric Angels bassist Jonathan Daniel was a booker at clubs like the Troubadour, Madame Wongs West, etc. And when there was a hole in the schedule, Jonathan would whip out his rolodex of everybody in the scene's phone #'s & start making calls - "Trash gig, Tommorrow - 10:30 Troubadour - Can you make it?" and that's how it went. The set lists were mostly covers, ranging from Bowie & the Stones, to whatever was on people's minds. For example, if somebody we knew was getting married, the set list had a theme of songs like "When The Whip Comes Down", "Love Stinks", "This Diamond Ring Doesn't Shine For Me Anymore" , etc.... If you didn't know it, Gilby was always good to call out "C" - "B" - "A to G" or what ever the chord progression was, then 1-2-3 & off the song went. It was great fun... There IS a video of one of the show, I've seen it once... long ago... It's so old, C.C. DeVille was still going by Bruce JoHanson... I think it's from before he joined Poison.

OH, & as for Tyler... I don't think that would ever happen.
GnR were the opening act for Aerosmith for a while on the Permanent Vacation tour, with a freshly dried out Aerosmith & a No Booze policy backstage, & here comes a defiant GnR with booze & drugs all over the place, they didn't last 5 gigs on that tour... I don't think they ever really made up over that.

Shite.

The core fact is, apart from plain being good, Miles is in Slashes circle AND he knows the song. The main thing to take away from this is, Axl is once again a jerk. Slashes solo band may play smaller venues, but then totally beat what passes for GnR now. And I was at the stage for both.

Stating the obvious there, Christian. To h*ll with the safety of circles.

I'm looking for something called IMPACT at a moment like this. Like so many before them, they coulda called in the big boys to handle vocal duties in lieu of jerk off, Rose.

Kennedy is nothing more than a glorified proficient demo singer.

It woulda been way more memorable with one or more legends doing the honors.

Wenner coulda called it in AND gotten it.

Just like his Generock guitar leads, this is yet one more example of Slash's feeblemindedness.

Though I'll never forgive Rose for his extraordinary level of self important selfishness, I almost can't blame the guy for splitting up. I heard plenty of stories about Slash's inability to function cuz he'd be so wasted.

What's the Robert Evans quote?...

There are three sides to every story. Your side. My side. And the truth. Unfortunately, when it comes to what led to this band's demise, we'll probably never really know the latter.

It's also important to note that Dizzy Reed was an inductee, as a result of being in the band during the 'Illusion' era. However, like Axl and Izzy, Dizzy did not attend the ceremony.
