Newspaper Claims 'Hysteria' Caused Baby Boom

Oh, how I love Ohio. Cleveland's Plain Dealer recently ran a feature on Def Leppard on their affiliate website Cleveland.com. Writers of the website have determined that Def Leppard's Hysteria caused a baby boom! Seriously. Here's an official chart to go with their hypothesis. Since I'll use any excuse to talk about Hysteria, I couldn't resist sharing this chart. Happy Friday.

Well, I can certainly remember some fun times while listening to this album. No babies though.

But isn't all our music make-out music? I woudn't single this one out.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the release of Hysteria in the U.S. I cranked the shit out of my Deluxe Edition CD on the way to work today. Gods of War still gave me chills and I was rockin' to Don't Shoot Shotgun and Excitable...

There are songs on this album about doing the dirty ? No way !!!
Side One :)
Women ? - skin on skin, let the love begin
Rocket ? - satellite of love
Animal ? - and I lust animal
Love Bites ? - self explanatory
Pour Some Sugar On Me ? - you got the peaches
Armegeddon It ? - But are you getting it ?

If you've lasted this long hopefully your tape deck has auto reverse and can start playing the other side..

God of War ? - maybe not overt in nature, but the thundering beat at the beginning gives a little rhythmn
Don't Shoot Shotgun ? - Oh Shotgun! Shoot me Baby...let it blow (seriously that's how the song ends)
Run Riot ? - kind of like God of War, but mainly its the song setting up the softness of Hysteria
Hysteria ? - I got to know tonight, if you are alone tonight
Excitable ? - heavy breathing and are you excitable ?
Love and Affection ? - okay now its just getting plain ridiculous

I have 2 sons and someday they may ask "Daddy, do storks bring babies ?" I'll smile and say "No son, Def Leppard does"

Hahaha!!! Love the theory. When this came out, my roommate and her boyfriend played this album nonstop in her room. Obviously, they weren't doing needlepoint to it.

However, when this album came out, my girlfriend and I made our own music.

p.s. GNR!!! Yes it is!!! Love that song!

Pretty good read. Curious to see a chart on Sade.

Wow. I didn't realize that it was that anniversary, and I still blasted the re-mastered HYSTERIA yesterday. (Perfect record for driving on a hot summer night, with the top down!)

To the trained ear, it's amazing how surgically precise every overdubbed guitar part, or vocal is. Mutt Lange is a studio genius. Major respect goes out to Rick Allen for doing with one arm, what a lot of drummers can't do with two. And bonus points to his bandmates for sticking with him, & not replacing him. THAT is what being true bandmates is all about.
I have a couple of thoughts:
"WOMEN" - Never have I ever heard the first book of the Bible portrayed in such a sexy way. Excellent songwriting.

"ROCKET" - Can I say I absolutely HATE this version? Thank heavens somebody decided this was a half-baked song, & they went and re-mixed & re-recorded bits of it for the "Vault / Video Version". It would have been a tragedy & a lost opportunity if this was the final & only version. This reminds me of a rough demo compared to the mega-hit sonic beast that the "other version" is. And for anyone who doesn't remember, when HYSTERIA first came out, & WOMEN was the first single, it performed a bit sluggishly on the charts. I wasn't until ROCKET was the 3rd or 4th single released, that Hysteria's sales rocketed in to the stratosphere, hitting heights only a handful of records ever do.

POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME : Is there a better in concert sing along song out there? I don't think so! A true classic, & the song that finally kickstarted Hysteria's sales, perfectly setting it up for ROCKET's 3rd stage afterburner boost!

And the tour for this, was "In The Round"... What a highly inventive way to present the band. It totally worked!

"Rocket" was the final single released off Hysteria. Here's the order of the singles/vidoes released in the U.S.
