Classic Electric Boys

Sometimes I just don't understand America.
I stumbled across this video of the Electric Boys from 1993 performing three songs in support of the Groovus Maximus album, and my God are these guys SOLID. I have been a fan since the first album, and I continue to scratch my head and wonder how they did not become huge in the states. Take the performance from this video and put it up against anything Poison, Ratt or Warrant were doing around the same time. It'll never make sense to me.
Pick up the Electric Boys latest release, Starflight United.

I remember when these guys came out, lips and hips was there single I went out n bought the casstte , over all not a bad CD then nothing about them for a while then there next album came out and the single I can't even remember what it was but remember it being kind of a psychedelic song and they were dead in the water from there. I have recently listened to all there albums and overall not bad but Can u derstand how they fell by the wayside.

one word...PROMOTION!...I can add a number of bands that put out CDs in the early 90s...Heavy Bones, Neverland, The Scream to name a few. Bands needed MTV support back then...the tide was already turning (Pearl Jam, Nirvana)..so...well..I was lucky to see Electric boys in concert...and they impressed...I did read somewhere that MTV was thinking about doing an event..kinda like a Throw back Thursday..they bring back a full day programing from a day in the 80s and another day in the 90s.....would be interesting..but..would the kids watch?..

America was so grunge-i-fied by '93 that any band daring to play fun hard rock didn't have a chance at mainstream success.

Damn, Gene! Were you ever lucky, indeed! Just ask Joe Elliot, as we see his undying love for this band on his sleeve.

This insanely good footage proves just how great these guys are. I am playin' the lottery to see 'em in Sweden. Please, Metal Gods, make it happen!

Gotta be honest, though... The 1st album was a little too funky for my taste. To me, they really hit their stride when it was pretty much all over.

Check out the bonus track below from 1994's "Freewheelin'" which I mentioned in Comments of a previous post about that album. Though the album attracted little attention, I love it, so much so I own two copies of the highly collectible version which contains the following:

I really liked their 1989 record, "Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride"... which is different from the European version. a few different songs. Groovus Maximus wasn't nearly as good.

Recently they covered this song from Robyn, & made it a much better song w. their arrangement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsS_XbmHwlA

Yep, Ace... "Funk-O-Metal" is the first album I was referring to.

As I stated above, I personally believe "Freewheelin'" to be their best.

Clicking on the link in my previous comment above will reveal why. And thanks for the link you have provided.

That ROCKS and these guys are perhaps THE most criminally overlooked band of our beloved music.

p.s. Did you ever see 'em, Ace?
