Aerosmith Tonight!

It's finally Aerosmith day! Can you tell I'm excited? I'm seeing the band, plus opener Slash, at Riverbend in Cincinnati. I've got pavilion seats because the lawn sucks at Riverbend. I'd have better pavilion seats but I refuse to be forced into a VIP or premium package to get closer to the stage. I've come to hate large concert venues that are owned or managed by LiveNation, thus forcing the consumer into overpriced seats or crap they don't need. Seriously, I'd never buy a VIP package for Aerosmith - or any band - anyway because that's a colossal waste of cash, and I don't need a photo or handshake with the band and "free" T-shirt thank-you-very-much. What I do want is a nice place in the venue where I can most likely see the stage. So whatever.

I'll go to the show tonight, and enjoy my seat in the back of the pavilion, happy that I wasn't hoodwinked into an overpriced ticket. I'll also be bypassing the merchandise booth, another colossal waste of cash. Let's be honest here, folks. If you're reading this site, you've probably got a literal cache of concert shirts, right? I know I have way too many, all overpriced at time of purchase, so I surely don't need any more. The stuff you own ends up owning you and my closet does not need one more band shirt!

I'll go, rock out with my husband to my favorite band of all time and come home with cash in my pocket. I refuse to give LiveNation any more of my money than absolutely necessary to get in to see the gig.

Oh, and if by a miracle I do get "Nobody's Fault" live, you'll probably hear me screaming all the way at your place!

Thing is, Al, how much longer are these guys gonna be around? Last time I saw 'em and quite a few times previously, I managed to see 'em POINT BLANK, in some cases, paying a small fortune to do so.

Here's why... If there's one band that's still touring, and with the original line-up, mind you, that's worth seeing, it's, hands down, these guys! Tyler has more talent on his pinky than almost any other living singer/songwriter who's still capable of belting out something on the level of "Dream On" just like he did when he was 21. The only one you might be able to say that about is McCartney.

If I've got the bread, I'm shelling it out to get right up there where Tyler can hold the mike out to me to sing back-up vocals just like I did in 2007, when he did so during "JADED".

Maybe this time, I'll try to snatch one of those trademark scarves he ties to the mike stand. That's something you just can't do from the cheap seats -- an experience I would NEVER FORGET as long as I LIVE!!! Believe me, you wouldn't care how much it cost after living it like that!

MB, I wouldn't grab Steven's scarves if I were you.
See that big round cast iron base to his mic stand? Steven's been know to activate somebody's dental plan with it, if they grab his scarves.

I've been seeing these guys since the "expensive seats" for their shows were $6.50 !

I saw 'em right before that last record flopped & they were still a great live act... just not $250 per ticket worth of great, this time around. And, as old as they're getting... I'd prefer to sit farther back & let distance fade those wrinkles. Then it'll be somewhat like the old days, when AC/DC was their opening act.

Have fun! Nothing beats seeing your favorite band live. Personally I like Aerosmith but the ticket prices are through the roof. I don't know much about the industry and who does that kind if stuff, but they do need to realize not everyone can afford tickets prices. Plus parking and merch...the list goes on and on. I'm sure they still kill it live. But seeing Steven on Doctor Oz earlier this week killed me a little inside. Since when is hemeroid cream rock n roll? Anyways have fun. Sorry for the rant.

Enjoy Slash too. Saw him he last time he came to Baltimore and it was an amazing show. Great bill. Slash and the mighty Aerosmith!
I'm taking my daughter and her BF to see Kiss and Def Lep Friday. It will be their first time seeing either band. Excited.

Gary! "No More No More" -- One of my Top 5 favorite Aerosmith songs.

Gotchya on the scarves, Ace. I don't think I would go for his scarves. I was just making a point about the idea of being up close. Also, I get what you mean about seeing them when when they (we) were young. I first saw 'em in 1975 off "Get Your Wings"!

Yeah, the prices are through the roof but, again, nothing like see in' 'em (or any band one worships) point blank for a memory you'll NEVER FORGET! Especially if you may never have the chance to see 'em that way again.

I'm with ya, Allyson. ticket and merch pprices have gotten way out of hand, hence why I hardly ever go to big shows anymore. As for concert shirts, I used to have a ton of them. Back in the roaring 80s, a shirt at the show only cost about $15 max. Plus, the ticket was also about $15 max for a good sseat. So, I'd always buy a shirt at every show I went to. I wish I had them now, not that I could fit into them anymore, but I got rid of them when I moved to san Diego and had to greatly downsize my cache of stuff. Anyway, I hope you have an amazing time tonight!

Oh, and one other thought...that $15 ticket price was in the mid 80s. the oldest ticket stub I still have is from when I saw ZZ Top at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1980. the cost of the ticket?...$7.50!

Very cool! I saw them last weekend and they blew me away... I hadn't seen Tyler that energized in years and they were in top form. Enjoy!

Bob.I think I may still may have the AC/DC ticket stub for the Back In Black tour lying around from the Spectrum in 1980.It was also a whopping $7.50. Lmao.Saw Kiss in 1976 when I was 13 at the long defunct Philly Civic Center and I'm all but positive it was $5.75? You can't buy a frickin'beer for that now at a show....lol

Permanent Vacation was my last show for them. Texxas Jam was the best Aerosmith tho. Texxas Jam always rocked they had killer concerts for several years. I went to 4. Anyone else ever been to a Texxas Jam?

Have a great time at the show. Last time I saw them, they were touring with Mötley Crue. I'd definitely see them again.

@Badland I went to a show at the Cotton Bowl, though it was no longer called the Texxas Jam, had some other name at that point. Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken, Scorpions and Van Halen. That was the show where Sammy's voice was screwed up and promised a free show at some other point. I actually made it to the free show several years later in the West End.

Best time I ever saw Aerosmith was on the Permanent Vacation tour. Before there too much Aeroschlock. Went with a buddy of mine in college and took along his younger sister and her friend who only knew the latest album. It was funny to watch their reactions to the old songs.

Aerosmith played Big 10 Inch, Uncle Salty and Adam's Apple as far as some of the more lesser known songs. Don't remember the whole setlist so can't say whether Nobody's Fault was there or not.

Saw them again after a couple more albums. Too much Cryin' and Angel. Not enough old stuff.

Gary, I saw KISS at the Spectrum in '79 with Judas Priest opening up. I don't have that stub anymore, but the ticket was somewhere between $6 and $7. As for Aerosmith, I saw them on a triple bill with deep Purple and G&R at the Meadowlands in '89. With the exception of G&R, (Axl kept bitching about the sound), it was an incredible night of music.

Cheap Seat
Yea they called that one Monster of Rock. I was there and at West End for the free VH show. All day concert when the bands were in their prime was killer. Cup fights fire hoses and if im not mistaking they debuted Cinderellas Long Cold Winter.

Aerosmith played in 87. Boston headlined with Whitesnake Poison and Tesla.

Earliest ticket stub I've got is March 1975 when I saw J. Geils at The U.S. Naval Academy!

Another act of note I saw back then was Led Zeppelin on May 27, 1977 at Capital Centre in Largo, MD (10 minutes from the Capital in D.C.)

The others are too numerous to mention but I'm damn sure I loved nearly all of 'em.

Oh, and at most of the big arena shows I attended, I was point blank or within the 1st 10 rows.

Go BIG or GO HOME!
