Steel Panther Perform On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

Steel Panther performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night. I can't help but be amused and wonder what the average American was thinking when these guys popped up on the tube? Nonetheless, performances on mainstream shows like Kimmel are nothing but good news for bands like Steel Panther.

Way to go, guys...
SP always puts on an entertaining show,& even after the end of their major label deal, they remain on an upward trajectory.

I'd love to see them go out on tour opening for Def Leppard.

Ha ha. Didn't really have a lot of songs to choose from, did they?

Nice job.

I think you can guess why the deal ended.

Ultimately, they're boring.

Yes, they had a 2 album deal w/ Republic Records.
Ultimately, I guess either Republic opted out, or SP figured they could make more going the independent route. Don't worry, they'll be fine & on this 3rd record, they own their masters!

SP are like oysters or applesauce: you like 'em, or you don't. Me? Like oysters, I like 'em every now and again and appreciate the fact that they are around when I want some (funny, dumb, and well-executed parody/tribute of/to the music I love).

I suspect Ace is right as well. They moved more quickly towards more control over their product because they were gaining some level of popularity. You can count off numerous bands, ones that were big back in the day, that have done the same thing over the past decade-plus.

I give SP a whole lotta credit...I saw them in 02 as Metal shop or was it Metal school?..I don't recall...but they have been doing pretty well for 12 plus years...way longer than the actually glam metal-hair band scene that they are making a bit of fun of...right?..The scene was truly big between 84-91..sound right?..kudos to SP..still rocking...and I just saw them in Vegas last year..and still very entertaining

Seen them live twice in two days in December and each show was FUN, FUN, FUN !!! And of course some rock n roll. So call them boring or played out or whatever. couple thousand people that showed up each night, didn't think so.

Gene, can we call that '81-'93? I 'm just wanting such a great period for Rock & Roll to have lasted a bit longer.

Seen SP 3 times, last one (ever!), if I can help it, was opening for Priest at The Hard Rock, Universal, Orlando, FL. Great music but save for a few one liners, the schtick is beginning to wear out.

MB: kinda like "Jamie's Cryin'", "The Ballad of Jane" and other
sad, sappy songs...It's what you hear and how you sing it, that counts...For instance, my favorite SP song is from "feel the steel"; the ditty "Party all day". To the "average" listening, it's an anthem to doing drugs and f*uck anyone and everyone that cums along, back-tracked to riffs from "living on a prayer". Blasphemy!

But, use your imagination a bit and substitute, "party" for "working" and also substitute "f*cking" to "relaxing" in your home after working hard all day. Get ahead, peeps...use your imagination a little and use your own substitutions.

"It'll make you feel good".

"JUST SAY HELL F*ckin' YEAH"!

But, I digressed...Steel Panther is schtick and to me, Cabaret- Joan Jett's favorite movie, by the way.

Great post, Fletch. It is about context. They filter nostalgia twice (if not three times) through the parody strainer and distill a heady brew that is not everyone's cup of mead. Like you, some of my favorites songs from back in the day now feel tired and flat, as much from me priming the pump as from me changing/getting older/maturing or whatever else.

But I also agree (and have previously) with you Metalboy! I wish the era had lasted longer. And I also think that, like a comedy act, people want to see the stage act changed up a bit each time they see them (akin to a set list from our favorite band and not just some band we know because of the hits). SP is walking a fine line.

Either way, love them . . . in doses. And respect them . . . for celebrating an era that came and went too fast for my tastes.
