Rock and Metal Grammy Nominations Announced

Here's a list of a bunch of bands/albums/songs I don't like or own! The Grammy nominations were announced yesterday and the big categories we care about are listed below. Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica and Foo Fighters should be winners. Basically this is all a jumbled mess. It's like the powers-that-be took all the rock acts and put them in a blender and just hit "pulse." Whatever band was still sort of intact got nominated in whatever category, no worries. But then again, I'm old, so whatever. What do you think?

Best Rock Performance:
"You Want It Darker" – Leonard Cohen
"The Promise" – Chris Cornell
"Run" – Foo Fighters
"No Good" – Kaleo
"Go to War" – Nothing More

Best Metal Performance:

"Sultan's Curse" – Mastodon
"Invisible Enemy" – August Burns Red
"Black Hoodie" – Body Count
"Forever" – Code Orange
"Clockworks" – Meshuggah

Best Rock Song:
"Atlas, Rise!" – Metallica
"Blood in the Cut" – K.Flay
"Go to War" – Nothing More
"Run" – Foo Fighters
"The Stage" – Avenged Sevenfold

Best Rock Album:
Emperor of Sand – Mastodon
Hardwired... to Self-Destruct – Metallica
The Stories We Tell Ourselves – Nothing More
Villains – Queens of the Stone Age
A Deeper Understanding – The War on Drugs

Best Alternative Music Album:
Everything Now – Arcade Fire
Humanz – Gorillaz
American Dream – LCD Soundsystem
Pure Comedy – Father John Misty
Sleep Well Beast – The National

Metallica will get Best Rock Album for “Hardwired”.

At the risk of sounding like a cold-hearted cynic, a big thumbs-up to the Grammy team for the obligatory nods to the recently-departed Cohen and Cornell. both brilliant musicians for sure, but you could literally smell those two nominations coming from miles away.

I really thought Disturbed's version of the Sound of Silence would get a nod - I think its awesome..

It'd be cool if Mastodon won best metal performance and best rock album. Their album they put out this year is killer! Glad to see it growing and reaching new audiences.
I can definitely see Foo Fighters winning best rock performance and best rock song.
Kind of cool to see more actual rock and metal nominated in the rock categories, I'm sick of the same I'm people winning multiple times every year.

Agreed, Dj. Mastodon are a bright spot. And I particularly like Brent Hinds, esp. given how he needles metal fans and foes alike in interviews. It borders on performance art.

At the risk of doubling your cynicism, Bob, I concur: they roll out the recently dead and barely cooled annually . . . sorta' like a musical version of Jeremy Bentham at the University College London.
