Motley Crue Week: Thursday

We're just one day away from the big Netflix debut of The Dirt, the movie about Motley Crue!

Here's a little treat: we actually have a person in our midst who got to attend the red carpet premiere on Monday night... and he emailed me some tidbits!

BBG! reader and author Thomas Scott McKenzie (that's a link to his book!) attended the premiere for fun and here is what he told me:

--The movie is really good. It does the era justice. While it's funny and it points out some of the funny clothes, it's still treated seriously. It's representing the era, not making fun of the era.

--All the actors did a great job with the mannerisms of the musicians. But in the theater and afterword, everyone was talking about Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee. He was eerie in his portrayal of Tommy's childlike enthusiasm.

--It's no secret that the movie really only focuses on about the first 15 years. That has been speculated online and it's largely true.

--The Ozzy Osbourne scene is amazing.

--And they do a "day in the life of Tommy Lee" that is a lot of fun.

--Whenever you take a book of that size and complexity, you have to make cuts and do different things. I appreciated that --as a geek-- whenever they took liberties or changed things, I thought "Oh, yeah, I see why that had to happen. That was a good way of dealing with that."

--All in all, it's a movie that I think most Crue fans can be proud of.

--Be sure to watch all the way through the credits. Fans will appreciate what they see.

After the movie, McKenzie attended some after parties, too. He saw some celebrities and musicians, including Dj Ashba and Billy Rowe. He thinks he saw Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters. Motley did not perform during the party at the Whisky but there was an all-female Motley tribute act called Girls, Girls, Girls (I've actually written about them before).

Also, our own Kari is an extra in the film. I can't wait to stare frame by frame to see if I catch a glimpse of her! Much of the film was made in her hometown of New Orleans.

Guys, I think we brought back glam!

By Ozzy scene I assume it’s the infamous snorting of the ants story! Damn I remember reading that story in Hit Parader or Circus magazines back in the day (y’all know what day that was. I can’t think of what year lol 1984?).

Can’t wait!

for those of you who subscribe to SiriusXM, do yourself a favor and listen to Eddie Trunk's interview with Nikki, Tommy, and the actors who play Nikki and Mick. they did it at the Rainbow Tuesday night, and it is a fun, and very informative listen. I know Trunk can be annoying, but I thought he did a good job this time around. And, EddieLonghair, I too am old, and have the same Friday night planned as you.

Hi gang,

Thanks for the reference, Allyson. Nice surprise, thank you.

I didn't share with Allyson any criticisms of the movie because I didn't want to predispose anyone. I was just tossing out random tidbits I thought this audience might find interesting, also while trying not to give away too much. It's not a perfect film by any stretch and you all will have points of contention here or there. It's not a massive budget Spielberg opus nor is it Oscar bait intellectual explorations of identity. It's also an adaptation of a 400 page book that spans decades so choices aren't going to satisfy everyone.

Maybe we reconvene on Monday once everyone has seen it to more fully discuss?

Ultimately though, I do think that most of us will be largely happy, as fans of the band and fans of the genre. It's well worth watching and I am attending two viewing parties this weekend so it seems excitement is high.

Happy viewing everyone!!

I have it on good authority from Glamprincess Kari that Eddie Chump is reporting “The Dirt” will first be available at 12:00 Midnight PST, 3:00 A.M. EST!

Guess who will be waking up at 2:55 A.M. and having popcorn for breakfast?!

Do you have any evidence, Badland? Or is this the story that Nikki already mentioned, and all of the sex in the book, was between consenting adults? Guessing you have no evidence whatsoever and are just a hater, that cant stand the Crue. Maybe this is a good week for you to just sit this one out, lil fella. 2019 over pc type ppl need not try to understand bands like the Crue. You should focus on Mr. Big or Bad English types of bands. Thanks for your brilliant contributions to our themed week, though! SMMFH

@Badland - Yikes first stone in the pool of bliss LOL - I Kid - I read the book I don't remember it being called a rape but I am sure a lot of things went on in the 80's with many bands that today the bands would be hung in the court of public opinion if it was publicized. No rape is not OK but even Nikki has admitted the story may not be true or at the very least embellished. I can only hope and take the man at his word.
