I have to admit, hearing that Ward wasn't going to be joining them was a bit disheartening. But that and all the other static that has been thrown around--about their performances in England (at the O2 Academy and at Dowload) and this performance in the States--pales next to struggle Iommi is going through right now.

With the passing of so many great artists as of late, the least fans of metal can do is keep it short and sweet: best wishes for a speedy recovery Iommi. Just about anything else seems shallow by comparison.

It's a shame, though, that the band didn't realize the historical importance of having Ward there and should have pulled out all the stops to make that happen, ESPECIALLY considering Iommi's condition.

So agreeon all points MB. Without these guys to pave the way, there is none of the stuff we like now.Frickin' pioneers of so much stuff,from the "dark lyrics" to the dropped tuning of Tony's guitars. (Which he did to alleviate some of the pressure on his fingertips after cutting them off in an industrial accident!)

As for my personaal fave,it'd probably be Master Of Reality.

Boy oh boy....I hate to say it but it may be time for Ozzy to hang it up. He sounds absolutely terrible and out of key.

His voice is so unique, however, he still kinda pulls it off enough to keep it going, Jeff. That is until they can find the next DIO (RIP). Here's to hoping Tony can stick around to get Ward back and, should it become necessary, find a new singer.

Gary, I almost picked up "Ironman", Tony Iommi's book, at the Indy record store right near me. It was either that or "Commando", the story of Johnny Ramone of The Ramones. I walked out with neither but now I think I'll go back and get both this week (next paycheck, hahaha!!!). It's precisely your bit of trivia and all that Iommi went through that's sending me back there -- I mean, just think about it -- Talk about "Metal On Metal" -- his Thimble on Guitar Strings for the first time! -- it just doesn't get any more METAL than that!

p.s. Believe it or not, I've got all the Sabbath stuff in triplicate -- Original Vinyl, Original CDs and the entire catalogue of what was released on Japanese Press "Mini Album" CDs! After going through a phase of studying their stuff up and down in the late 90's, "Technical Ecstacy" emerged as my personal fave and I'm kickin' myself, I didn't have the situational awareness at the time to go see 'em on that tour! Probably one of the heights of my life was flyin' down a country road at 4:30 a.m. in my triple silver '85 Cadillac Fleetwood (RIP) in 2005 listening to "Rock And Roll Doctor" at full volume on cassette in the Hamptons with 3 Local Rocker chicks who were totally into it! Of course, that may be another reason reinforcing why it's my fave, too!

Not sure how people will take this, but so be it. I still think _Born Again_ is a (mess of a) classic. "Zero the Hero" is an incredible song. The cover? Well, enough said.

With Dio gone, Ozzy fading (who can blame him?), and not a lot of fans clamoring for the return of Tony Martin, Gillan would be a great fit . . . with a healthy and revitalized Iommi, a sober and focused Ward, and an always solid Geezer.

Ya got a point, HIM! Gillan would be the logical choice because of the level of his previous involvement. Or, how about this? Why not Halford? Didn't he once sub for Ozzy for one show when he got sick?

Spot on Metalboy! Halford clips are available all over the net of that performance. And I wouldn't mind Hughes stepping back in, given the work he has done relatively recently with Iommi as well. His work with Sabbath is some of the strongest non-Dio and non-Ozzy stuff (next to Gillan). And now that he has his demons in check (the stories of his tour with Sabbath are hilarious), he sounds better than ever with BCC.
