Props to Metalboy! for this find. Check out some classic Glam right here: Eddie Van Halen on The Guitar Show way back in 1985. I'm pretty sure this is the reason Eddie rarely does interviews... Dude is a genius, but man, he needed (needs?) some media training!

The main reason he wasn't often interviewed live is because he was always drunk off his ass after the show. Barely makes sense in print these days either. Stick with the guitar Ed.

My thoughts exactly, Gary, when I stumbled across this.

Like said to Allyson when I forwarded it onto her:

"Total Genius. Total As*hole."

This guy needed more than Media Coaching, he needed Life Coaching and Anti-Bigotry Intervention, to put it mildly, if there is such a thing, though it really is kind of a tragic comedy that plays out before us in this clip.

It's the perfect example of the adage that, generally speaking, racially tinged jokes, though funny when addressed by an African American comedian can be really quite funny. But the tranverse? -- History has shown us, not necessarily so. It's all really rather sad, actually, coming out of the smiling mouth of little Eddie Van Halen, unquestionably, one of THE Greatest Guitarists to Ever Live!

Geez, it makes you wonder what his conversations with Valerie Bertinelli were like.

To Batmaniak's point, if you watch the entire video, there are some moments where Van Halen reveals his truly and completely original genius on the guitar. And it's not even plugged in!

Your Dead On Metalboy! I think as fans sometimes our opinions of our favorite musicians get skewed. In our mind we believe that these people that create this great music must be cool. Only when we come face to face with these people that we put on a pedestal do we find out they are total jerks. Eddie is one of those cases.
