I know MB has a list 300 songs long for the ballad category. :) I for one am amazed at the power of a good ballad. Although the most hardened of rocker will never admit, u & I both know he is driving down the highway crooning to Lillian Axes's The Day That I Met You with a tear streaming down his face. Gotta admit, the ballads were a big part of get chix into hard rock/metal. The formula, ballad, anthem, party songs helped sell millions of records people.

A little curious about Cinderella at #3. To me that's heartbreak. You would also add Every Rose Has Its Thorn which is a monster of a song.

Love the choice for #1, Miljenko's screams take this song to another level.

Can't wait to have the time one day to really come up with my top 20 ballads.

Kix Chiz! The picture you paint is hilariously priceless... "Driving down the highway crooning to Lillian Axe's 'The Day That I Met You" with a tear streaming down his face.'"

You called it right... I've actually got 5 (!) Power Ballad Playlists with hundreds on my iTunes! Making my first one is pretty much how I wound up on this site 6 years ago as I traversed the web searching for the perfect Hair Metal Love Song!

I'd have to put my #1 as "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crüe but I shall return later tonight with a list of my other top faves.

Happy METAL Valentine's Day everybody!

p.s. And especially Allyson for throwing TeslUGH! On your Top 5! Love hath no fury!

I was never a big fan of ballads, but these are all great choices. I would add KISS Forever, Svengali Love Don't Live Here and Firehouse Love of a Lifetime.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone - been listening to Dirty Looks' "The Last Forever" - so many to choose from. Looking forward to Metalboy's lists later this evening. Kixchick - you nailed the formula. PEACE OUT

Luv me some Dirty Looks one of the best live bands i ever saw and it was like 4 times.

Just off the top of my head but like someone said earlier too many to choose.

Shotgun Messiah - Living Without You
Roxx Gang - Red Rose
Badlands - Show Me the Way
Junkyard - Hands Off

Just one question is Badlands - Jade's Song/ Winter's Call a ballad? Starts slow then jams

I knew that "home sweet home" would be/is mb top choice. If you didn't figure that out beforehand, what's wrong with you.

Anyway, Kixchick, DKWYGUIG by tom and co. is definitely a pure-emotion, power-ballad love song. I sing it to my wife, at times, but the difference is on parallel line with vh's "Jamie's cryin'"

I sing the song this way to her...'Don't worry about it cath...they didn't know what they had till you're gone. Now you're gone to them and we get to sing this song together...don't know what they had got till it's gone!" goodbye to them!

and if/when mb changes around the lyrics...it's also,

home safe home.

oh, I'm home safe and home sweet!

we're the ones who should be sheltered.

Badland,

Great question. To me Winters Call starts off as a meditation on nature and obviously winter. The timing of that album for me makes Winters Call not a ballad, but just an extremely vivid analogy of the break winter can give ourselves emotionally and physically. The lyric, "Winters call is calling, gonna leave it all behind, summer breezes fill my mind, my miYind" Such a great "Winter" album to me.

Sorry for the digression. No; to me Winters Call is not a ballad. Once Jake lays down that crunching riff it's pure, raw, blues based hard rock n roll!!!

Jackki, good call at your #1. Highly underrated Crüe song.My personal #1 would probably be "Something To Belive In" from Poison, even though it's not a love song per say. I just think lyrically,it's Brets best work by leaps and bounds.#2 would probably be "Standing Alone"from Tyketto, and then probably "Sometimes She Cries"from Warrant to round out my top three, for today anyway.....lol

Kixchix i agree. Not a ballad just a great song. I like when a song starts out slow and then starts jammin. Tesla - were no good together comes to mind.

Btw Kixchix i was also Rockin the Paradise back in the day. That was my first concert.

NOTE: Sorry, I took so long, Gang! I would have put more chicks but I ran outta time. Had to stop or I would never make it out of the "Metalboy! Cave" today, hahaha!!! I'm also probably stretching the rules (surprise, surprise), when it comes to the proper definition of "Powerballad" (i.e. "Cry Tough") but there are plenty of songs that can be identified as such. I also included some that are SO saccharin or horrible, their almost good, including many hidden gems and if you YouTube all you haven't heard, you are in for some real treats as well as some pure comedy. Enjoy!

After reading through, there is only one song I could add to the above lists.

Hanoi Rocks - Don't You Ever Leave Me
February 15, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterThe Cheap Seats
what about Y & T- temptation I believe in you and I'll cry for you. Keel cherry lane!!!!
February 15, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterdale
Photograph is a ballad? Long way to love? Dokken Burnin like a flame? Maybe Alone again. Im confused. No one like you? Maybe Still loving you.
February 15, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBadland
Definitely agree (Cheap Seats) with "Don't You Ever Leave Me" by Hanoi Rocks.
Either that or "Until I Get You" would be perfect.
I can't believe I didn't put them on my list.
In my defense, I was just doing it off the top of my head.

P.S. Cool "Babes" list of Glam Metal power ballads, Metalboy!
That was a nice touch!
