Farewell Chris Cornell

I certainly didn't expect to be writing up this news today: Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, has died. He was just 52 years old. We don't know anything about his death other than it was sudden and unexpected. He literally played a show with Soundgarden in Detroit last night. The news of his death broke in the early morning hours today.

This is pretty shocking to me. I always loved Chris' voice. His creation of Temple of the Dog brought about one of my favorite songs of all time, "Hunger Strike." Of course Soundgarden had a slew of big hits. My husband and I are fans, even though the band is lumped in with grunge. I always considered them more metal than that.

I saw Soundgarden live twice. I'm sad I didn't get to see the Temple of the Dog reunion. Time waits for no woman (or man). Don't put things off until tomorrow.

Tragic.

Chris just tweeted 11 hours ago. This world moves too fast.

Great singer and seemingly (from afar) nice man.

Soundgarden were the bridge between the '80's & '90's.

RIP

Just saw Soundgarden at Northern Invasion in Somerset, WI. They were the closing band on Friday night. Glorious mid spring evening in northern Wisconsin. Cool 60 degrees and delish sounds of Soundgarden wafting through the valley.

Last song I heard them sing on Friday : Blow Up the Outside World - fitting ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC2GjXMk7i4

"Someone tried to tell me something
Don't let the world bring you down
Nothing will do me in before I do myself
So save it for your own and the ones you can help"

Early reports are that he killed himself. According to TMZ, he was found in the bathroom with a band around his neck. Really sad either way. Soundgarden, although from seattle, totally transcended the grunge garbage that was flowing out of that city. They were heavy and melodic. A great band with one of the best vocalists in the business.

Poignant review of last night's show from the Detroit Free Press:

I don't know what my favorite Cornell track is. Something off the Temple Of The Dog record, Call Me A Dog or Wooden Jesus, most likely. But it also could be his acoustic cover of Redemption Song.
