Guns n' Roses Release New Track In Typical Guns n' Roses Fashion

Not a peep on the band's official social media regarding the drop of "Perhaps," a new track from Guns n' Roses. Instead, GnR released the song to Audacy radio stations. Then the song was put on YouTube - and naturally - removed. Now "Perhaps" is appearing on official streaming sites by time zone - with Australia currently having access as of noon ET on 17 August. Totally bizarre and totally on brand for Guns n' Roses.

So would you like to hear "Perhaps?" The song isn't exactly new. It is from the Chinese Democracy era and you can tell immediately by listening to the piano bits. No, this isn't Appetite For Destruction worthy, folks!

TIL: 'Alone' Is A Cover

I cannot be the only person to just learn that Heart's blockbuster "Alone" is a cover!

How did I find this out in the year of our lord 2023, you ask? By looking up Carrie Underwood's setlist for her recent opening gig for Guns n' Roses. (Really, it's more a double bill, but whatever).

I've shared the video many times of her performing "Alone" back in her American Idol days. I'm convinced that performance really helped propel her to a win and eventual career superstardom. So I wasn't surprised to see lots of rock covers in her set - she's always been a vocal 80s metal fan. Anyway, I notice "Alone" on her setlist and it says "I-Ten cover" next to he song.

So off to YouTube I go... and lo and behold "Alone" really is a cover! It was originally recorded by I-Ten, a duo of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. They released the song back in 1983. It is on the album Taking A Cold Look. "Alone" was overlooked - and did not chart. Don't feel bad for Steinberg and Kelly. They were a hitmaking duo, writing huge tracks for artists like Madonna and Whitney Houston.

"Alone" was also apparently used in an 80s sitcom and released as a single. Again, the track did not chart.

Then Heart comes along, Ann Wilson destroys that bad boy and we've got a number 1 hit on our hands.

Since then, the song has been covered by all sorts of superstars including Underwood and Celine Dion. I wonder how much Steinberg and Kelly made off this one song? Hopefully millions and millions.

Here's Carrie Underwood live the other night before Guns n' Roses. She really should make a rock album.

Just Slash & Axl Rose In The Studio Together

Urban Sound Studies shared the post below - featuring Slash and Axl Rose in the recording booth together. Guns n' Roses were listening to "new mixes." So does that mean new music? And new songs that are so far along they are mixed? If there is new music, how long will it take to come out? A year? A decade? Things to ponder on this Friday.

Update, Saturday, June 24: apparently the Facebook post featuring Slash and Axl was removed. Now the only post even mentioning Guns n' Roses is the one below. Things that make you go... hmmm.

Original photo was here (for a few hours anyway):

1988 Was A Badass Year For Music

The Facebook post below just showed up in my suggested follows account last night. I couldn't help but notice all the amazing songs from 1988. So many great number 1 hits! There's so many George Michael songs here (Faith was a huge album folks!), plus Guns n' Roses, Def Leppard and INXS. Cheap Trick hit paydirt with "The Flame" and so did Poison with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

Bon Jovi reached the top of the charts with "Bad Medicine" and The Beach Boys made a comeback with "Kokomo." Such a great list of songs. Perhaps the best year for popular music, ever. Thoughts?

Football, Snow, Ear Infections and RokIsland Fest Videos

Much like episodes of Seinfeld, some posts are really about a lot of stuff that equals nothing much.

Another week has come and gone and here we are on another Sunday. It's a big day for my Cincinnati Bengals as they head to Buffalo for the AFC divisional round. It's going to be tough, but I know Burrow and Co. can get it done.

Then there's this: apparently every forecaster in southern Ohio missed the fact that we were going to get a significant winter storm today and it's been snowing hard for hours here. Like, six inches hard or something and there's a snow warning for basically the entire day now. I'm on my final day of antibiotics for yet *another* double ear infection and it isn't clearing. So that, mixed with the snow equals a very crabby glam mistress.

Meanwhile, down in the Florida Keys it is warm and there is no snow. The Rok Island Fest just wrapped up and videos of the performances are appearing online.

Here's Lynch Mob doing "Wicked Sensation"

Here's Jetboy doing "Trouble Comes"

Here's Steven Adler's solo group doing "Night Train" and holy crap, singer Ari Kamin sounds like Axl Rose! I mean, he fronted a Guns n' Roses tribute band in the past, but still. Crazy!

Here's the band doing "Civil War"

I Always Feared This

Ok so maybe it is stupid, but I always worried about being smacked in the head by a microphone from Sebastian Bach or Axl Rose. They are both known to wildly whip around their mics and it always made me nervous to be too close to them while they perform.

Case in point: an Australian woman alleges that Rose smacked her upside the head with his mic after performing "Paradise City." Guns n' Roses are in Australia and they played Adelaide Tuesday when the alleged incident happened.

Apparently the woman got hit in the nose and was bloodied. The photos look bad!
