A7X Burns The House Down

Avenged Sevenfold recently played live in Boston. The band is playing live on the back of their new album Hail to the King. The album is easily one of the best of the year. While I basically love every song on the new album, "Unholy Confessions" (below) from Waking the Fallen remains my favorite A7X song period. Indulge me. Not Glam, but it makes me oh-so-happy.

Yawn... take half of Iron Maiden,(with a lot less talent, add a heaping scoop of Grungey, "Cookie Monster" vocals & stir to a bland paste.

I don't care if it's Allyson's website or not, to be asked to indulge her & be subjected to 90's shit-rock like this & Asking Alexandria, on a site called "Bring Back Glam" is a bit much.

It was bad enough when we had to put up with 3 Bret Micheals related topics in a week, but at least that fit the "Glam" moniker. This does not.

What's next? '60's psychedelia band "Bubble Puppy", Where are they now?'

That'd be about as relevent.

I know that Ace & Metalboy (and likely a few others) disagree, but I basically see these guys as the 2013 version of Motley Crue. They are the only young band out there doing huge, glam/metal style arena rock shows with big sound, crowd participation, pyro, etc. And the fact that they are constantly referencing bands like GNR, Maiden & Metallica as their influences for the new record is no doubt turning a lot of kids onto 80's music, much like how bands like Crue & Metallica got me into Sabbath, the Sex Pistols, & Zeppelin back in the 80's.

Their music definitely has a more modern metal edge to it than Motley does, but the attitude, showmanship & aggressiveness is there. They are also one of the only metal bands out there right now who write amazing ballads, which is one of the hallmarks of glam. Listen to Crimson Day, Seize the Day, or So Far Away and tell me that you don't hear glam influences in there.

It's cool if you don't like their vocals or whatever, but they are absolutely carrying the torch for 80's style metal, and are doing a really damned good job at it. At least, that is, if selling out arenas tells you anything.

Ace I usually agree with you all the time. But on this topic I think its an ok album. I like their older stuff a lot better and think Hail to the King is an absolute turd.

The fact is while A7X may not be your cup of tea their glam era influences are defiantly there. As for Asking Alexandria I am not a fan at all. However I like a lot of non-glam stuff as well.

I think that everyone should check out the band One-Eyed Doll. You will either love them or hate them. I am a big fan of this two piece band.

Overrated and boring.

Whether you like the band or not its okay. I think we're all rock n roll fans and metalheads here, but we all have different tastes, if we all liked the same thing life would be more boring than a blink-182 show......anyways I love the band, they wear the influence on their sleeves, and their last two albums are killer.

Bryon's post +1.

Ace,
So what do you think of Ratt & Hanoi Rocks.
Seems like you are always trashing Poison & Motley Crue.
I'm just curious because those are my Big 4 when it comes to glam metal.I was just wondering if you hate them as much as you do Motley Crue & Poison.

That is actually a cool thing you thought of Jakki, a big four of glam metal....

Actually I did come up with it myself as well.
I didn't know you had said that before.
I only discovered this site a few months ago.
I've been using that term years before I even knew this site existed.

Here's my Big 4 in order:
4.Poison
3.Ratt
2.Hanoi Rocks
1.Motley Crue

Listen I am not a fan of Asking Alexandria or Stone Sour and, while I didn't like any of their previous albums, I am loving the new A7X...sound very tradional metal to me. Funny why if Metalboy doesnt' like something is constantly berating those who do. Why is Metalboy's tastes in music more valid than anyone else's? Any why I love the fact we have a Sunset Strip veteran who posts...Ace Steele...its not like being able to "play" music makes his tastes or opinion anymore valid than anyone else's either. I love this site because it focuses on Glam which is my favorite genre of music but lets face it....Motley is not RUSH and RATT is not Dream Theater so I'm not sure why anyone ever trashes the talent of one band over another....beauty is in the eye of the beholder...right?
November 15, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJAT
Rush is trash but I do have their best of CD. It's a maxi CD single with just the song "Tom Sawyer".

Dream Theater are my favorite most boring band on earth. It's wonderful music to put on when I can't sleep at night. Soon as I put on their music, I am snoring within 9 seconds.

Give me Motley Crue and Ratt anyday over Rush and Dream Theater. They may be "talented musicians" but they sure write some coma inducing songs. I can listen to the same old songs I heard from Motley and Ratt a million times over the years and they still get me pumped everytime. So yes Rush is no Motley and Dream Theater is no Ratt.

Wow,,, big surprise our resident senior citizens are out in droves to slag on this band.

Unlike Asking Alexandria and Black Veil Brides (the Tuff and PBF of this genre), A7X are originators, and were instrumental in bringing hard rock / metal elements back into mainstream rock.
Before they broke radio was all about Stained, Nickelback, Seether, etc..

2 x #1 albums in a row,, I don't know about you but I am much happier seeing this band top the charts than Mumford and Sons, Pearl Jam, U2, Black Eyes Peas or Justin Bieber.

While we are making lists, here is the Big 4 of modern American metal:

- Avenged Sevenfold
- Lamb Of God
- Mastodon
- Killswitch Engage

...honorable mentions to Trivium and Shadows Fall

Mike,
I'm 32 years old & I think Avenge Sevenfold suck.
