Aerosmith Cancels Remaining Las Vegas Residency Dates

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith is sick with an undisclosed illness. The band canceled two Las Vegas residency dates last week because of the illness. Overnight the band cancelled the remaining two Vegas residency performances that were scheduled for tonight and Sunday.

This especially stings because I am writing this from a hotel room in Las Vegas. I came out here to see the residency tonight. I have been trying to see this gig for years now - since before the pandemic started! So many things have happened that have caused me to not be able to see the show I have determined it was not in my destiny to see Aerosmith as part of Deuces Are Wild. It wasn't in the cards I guess you could say. At any rate, I hope Steven gets well soon. The illness has to be serious to cancel so many shows and all the band members are old now. At this point I just want to get home to my cat. Special shout out to the folks watching him and the house. You know who you are!

The Best Rock Videos Of 1998 - Day 5

It's our last "best of" video for this special countdown, and it goes to Aerosmith for "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing." Now, Aerosmith is my favorite band but I really do not like this song. It is from the movie Armageddon and it was Aerosmith's first number one hit. It stayed in the top position on Billboard for four weeks, which is pretty darn good. The video makes nice use of the band vs. movie clips as well and that is why it is on the countdown.

I think I saw Armageddon twice in the theatre - it's a Michael Bay flick and I do enjoy his movies and when he makes big explosions. It was the biggest movie of 1998, which certainly helped Aerosmith with their number one chart position.

Bonus pop favorite: "Spice Up Your Life" by the Spice Girls. Look at that late 90s video tech!

The Best Videos Of 1989 - 'Love In An Elevator'

Aerosmith released Pump in 1989. Fresh off the back of Permanent Vacation, their successful comeback was cemented in platinum.

"Love In An Elevator" was the first single from Pump - and the video is just glorious. It was directed by Marty Callner, who also did all the famous clips from the Get A Grip album that feature actress Alicia Silverstone. (Callner was a longtime Aerosmith partner - directing something like 13 videos in all for the band back when MTV was big). When you basically have an unlimited budget, you can produce some great video concepts.

Pump is when Aerosmith really became a music video juggernaut and started releasing some truly legendary clips. One of my favorite Aerosmith videos has always been for "Elevator." I always thought all the members of the band looked extra engaged in this clip - like they were truly having fun during the filming. Plus there's Brandi Brandt as the elevator operator, some dogs, a fake cat, a super tall person, a little person, circus performers and an extra-ripped and tan Joe Perry. What's not to like?

Sunday's Best: Week 37, 2022

Today is Patriot Day - the 21st anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Take a moment to remember those lost - and everything that came after.

Today also marks the first Sunday of NFL Week 1! It was a busy and news filled week around the world and in the U.S. Closer to home, Eric and I worked on the house and ordered some new carpet for the bedroom which should be coming by the end of the month. When you're middle aged, new carpet = excitement I guess.

Aerosmith finally got to play their big 50th anniversary show at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday night, and that's our Sunday's Best for this week.

In the days before COVID-19, I had tickets for the Fenway gig. In fact, I bought them literally the minute they went on sale. I rejoined Aero Force One (fan club) to purchase early. I set a timer on my phone and closed the door to my office so I could concentrate. Fast forward and the pandemic shuts down the world, cancels the big concert, I get my money refunded and that was the end of it for me. I was skeptical the show would ever happen, but it did and it was apparently amazing. I know several people who went - and all seem to agree it was worth the money and the wait. I'll have to wait just a little longer because I am seeing Aerosmith in Las Vegas in December.

A fun fact: apparently the Aerosmith anniversary show now holds the record for the most tickets sold to any event at Fenway - ever.

I was looking for good videos of the show to share - and YouTube was literally removing them as soon as I would find them.

Live Aerosmith Is Back!

After two and a half years, Aerosmith finally performed live again. The band played in Bangor, Maine last night. The setlist was decent but it could be better with the addition of "Nobody's Fault," "Rats In The Cellar" and "Toys In The Attic." Seriously, how was "Toys" not in the show? "Deuces Are Wild" should really be in here, but maybe Aerosmith skipped it because I assume they play it at every Las Vegas gig and this one-off show gave them a chance to skip it. "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" should be banned but then the soccer moms and casual fans would be ticked. The most egregious omission from this set? "Last Child" for sure.

Aerosmith - Live From Rocksimus Maximus Tour at Comerica Park

This week, Aerosmith looks back at a live show from the 2000s as they continue their 50th anniversary celebration. The date was September 7, 2003 and the venue was Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. Never-before-seen footage reveals some gems here including my beloved "Nobody's Fault." You've only got a week to watch - don't wait!
