Motley Crue Remember Their Beginnings

This is a very awesome Facebook post from Motley Crue. A little look into the history of how the band got together. Great picture too! I love posts like this - it's like getting an extra piece of The Dirt.

KISS To Tour Early Next Year

I can't believe we're talking about 2019 tours already, but here we are. Paul Stanley was on CNBC's Squawk Box on Friday. During his interview, he said KISS will embark on a major tour at the beginning of 2019. All Paul would say is that it will be the "biggest tour" the band has done and then provided no other details. So is this it? The official beginning of the end for KISS as a touring act? Time will tell I guess.

Guitar Heroes Do Disney

From my inbox. This one is interesting to me because I really like Disney. I'm more a Walt Disney World fan than movie freak, but still. Maybe someday I'll win the lottery and own Disney Vacation Club! Also, this album features my beloved Richie Kotzen - how cool is that?

LOS ANGELES, CA -- April 27, 2018 -- The new instrumental album Disney Super Guitar features world-famous guitarists Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society), Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big), Tak Matsumoto (B'z), George Lynch (Dokken), Orianthi, and others performing hard-rocking, virtuosic versions of timeless Disney songs.

With cover art depicting Mickey Mouse "shredding" on an electric guitar, Disney Super Guitar releases worldwide on April 27, 2018 via Walt Disney Records. In addition to the guitar stars already listed, the album also features Phil X (Bon Jovi), Ron Thal (Guns N' Roses), Jeff Watson (Night Ranger), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob), and Richie Kotzen.

Every song on Disney Super Guitar is a Disney classic updated to appeal to both guitar fans and Disney fans alike, and all songs are powered by a backing band comprising guitarist John Bruno, drummer B.J. Zampa, bassist Chris Vescera, and keyboardist Michael Vescera (Chris’s father), who co-produced the record with the album’s mastermind, renowned producer Death-Rider.

"Disney Super Guitar is a natural follow-up to our first guitar-powered Disney release, which was Metal Disney” says Death-Rider. Metal Disney was released in 2017 and peaked at #1 on Amazon’s Metal chart.

The guitar virtuosos on Disney Super Guitar enjoyed re-imagining famous Disney tunes in their own ways. For example, Grammy-winning guitarist Tak Matsumoto, who has sold over 80 million albums with his rock duo, B'z, takes “When You Wish Upon a Star" to new heights with a soaring, overdriven lead guitar rendition of the main theme -- a theme that reappears later in the song as a down-home blues epilogue. "Everyone knows this beautiful melody, and I tried to express it in my own way," says Matsumoto. "I am so honored to be a part of this album. I hope you enjoy the guitar sound from Fujiyama country!"

Meanwhile, Zakk Wylde gives "Beauty and the Beast" a brutal metal touch. "Originally, it was a beautiful, dreamy piece," says Wylde. "Now, it's a cruel nightmare. I take pride in that."

"Hellfire" finds George Lynch performing the song’s main melody note-for-note in some places, yet, at other times, veering off into adventurous guitar approaches. "I mixed in everything from Roy Buchanan and Jeff Beck tricks to pick swipes and vibrato-bar moves," says Lynch. "I threw in everything but the kitchen sink."

Paul Gilbert took direct inspiration from the title of the song he chose. "I played electric guitar on 'Under the Sea,'" he says. "To create an under-the-sea sound, I operated my wah-wah pedal as quickly as possible while playing my guitar parts."

Track listing:

1. Zakk Wylde - Beauty and the Beast [Beauty and the Beast]
2. Paul Gilbert - Under the Sea [The Little Mermaid]
3. Tak Matsumoto - When You Wish Upon a Star [Pinocchio]
4. Mike Orlando - A Whole New World [Aladdin]
5. Orianthi - Someday My Prince Will Come [Snow White and the Seven Dwarves]
6. George Lynch - Hellfire [The Hunchback of Notre Dame]
7. Richie Kotzen - Can You Feel the Love Tonight [Lion King]
8. Jeff Watson - Colors of the Wind [Pocahontas]
9. Phil X - Chim Chim Cher-ee [Mary Poppins]
10. Ron Thal - Reflection [Mulan]

Great White To Replace Loudness At M3

M3 Rock Festival is next weekend in Columbia, Maryland. The annual Glam festival had a lineup of many of our favorites.

One of the bands slated to appear was Loudness. Now the Japanese band can't get into the country because of visa issues. This has happened to them many times before. Great White will step in and save the day. Have fun to all who are attending. I wish I could be there with you!

Tuesday Two-Fer, VI: RATT

From our friend HIM.

Where would we be without Ratt and the constant drama? I like to think we would be doing fine, reminiscing about how damn great these fellows were in their day. It wasn’t complicated. It wasn’t fancy. It was rock, stuffed with socks and amazing riffs and whatever it was that Croucier was doing.

First Pick: “Lack of Communication,” Out Of The Cellar (1984):

Out Of The Cellar [Explicit]

It would be so easy to pick the low-hanging fruit. But I won’t. Nope. I go with a song that just screams, from the first static-filled sound, “this is gonna melt your skull and you will smile while it does.” And I did. And I still do. Sure, they were talking about our inability to truly communicate with each . . . really? Was that what you wanted from them? Nah.

Second Pick: “Wanted Man,” Out Of The Cellar (1984):

Give Blotz his due. For as much of a liquor-inspired buffoon as he can be nowadays, this song is his to set up and he nails it. That is his sound. Full stop. We know it. So does he. He might not have contributed much else. But we know the Blotz when he drums and when he, well, shares with his fans. But this song is a straight-ahead dose of gun-slinging metal. The idea that these guys would last a day in the old West is laughable. Here is a test though: tell that to Crosby. I dare you.

Questionable-ish Mention: “Lovin’ You Is A Dirty Job,” Detonator (1990):

Not a bad late career (pre-Infestation and implosion) song from them. But “I’ve got the glue to glue it”? Really? That is all you guys could twist into a lyrical knot? What? Was Desmond Child sniffing glue when you penned that nugget? For some reason, that horrid line always trips me up.
