Since We're Talking MC94...

Yesterday's post about Tommy Lee's crazy drum solo and the snippet of "Hooligan's Holiday" from MC94 made me nostalgic for that album and that time in Motley history. So naturally I hit up YouTube and found an awkward segment of Nikki Sixx and Tommy on "Headbanger's Ball" promoting the album. Tommy mentions that things are "cool" because they are playing "theaters." Something tells me he didn't honestly feel that way! Anyway, enjoy your Sunday. I'm off to enjoy it myself.

Pro-Shot Video of The Crüecifly' Solo

So. You already know Motley Crue is out on the road, doing their final tour. Part of that tour includes a massive contraption called The Crüecifly. Basically, it's a sky-high roller coaster that Tommy Lee uses for his drum solo. It's so big and so dangerous, many of the outdoor venues can't handle it and I've read it's an absolute spectacle to watch as the crew assembles it before each show. Anyway, Tommy just released a pro-shot video clip of the drum solo and it's pretty cool.

Some observations: I think it's very interesting the clip opens with "Hooligan's Holiday" from my beloved Motley Crue (or MC94) album and I think having the actual audio would have been better, but whatever. All I know is, it was an interesting choice to use a Motley track voiced by John Corabi in this promo clip. Check it out (but don't if you get dizzy or motion sick).

'Moving On' -- Asking Alexandria, New Video

"Moving On" is my favorite track from Asking Alexandria's latest album From Death to Destiny. They just released the video this week and it's very reminiscent of all those 80s road warrior vids we love so much. Check it out and happy Friday!

New Metal Documentary Planned, You Can Help

The early '80s metal scene in Los Angeles has become legendary, as it spawned such worldwide headliners as Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Dokken, W.A.S.P., and originally, Metallica (before the latter relocated to San Francisco). And the new documentary, 'Inside Metal: Pioneers of L.A. Hard Rock & Metal,' chronicles the entire scene.

Directed by Bob Nalbandian and produced by Metalrock Films, 'Inside Metal' features all-new interviews with countless bands and artists that thrived on the scene, and tell its story, first hand. To ensure that this killer documentary receives the attention it deserves, a fundraising campaign has been set up at WWW.METALROCKFILMS.COM - which will help strengthen the film's distribution, marketing and promotion.

This groundbreaking movie features exclusive and candid interviews with members of Metallica (Lars Ulrich), Ratt (Stephen Pearcy), Dokken (Don Dokken), Quiet Riot (Carlos Cavazo), W.A.S.P. (Chris Holmes), Megadeth (David Ellefson), Great White, (Jack Russel), Y&T, (Dave Meniketti), Stryper (Michael Sweet) and Armored Saint (Joey Vera).

'Inside Metal' is about giving fans the real inside story from the behind the scenes world of metal and hard rock with in-depth interviews, ultra-rare concert footage and photographs, and an original music score from that era; in this no-holds-barred, never before seen, recollection of untold stories.

Early feedback has been exceptional, including renowned video director Jonas Åkerlund (who has worked with the likes of Metallica and Ozzy) raving, "This film captures an era that catapulted metal into the spotlight and takes the audience on a wild ride down memory lane. After watching it I wanted to get in my time machine and experience those days for the first time. You’re hit with a potent nostalgia, a time I thought we couldn’t get back, not until I saw this film. I can’t get enough of this shit, what an amazing film to watch over and over again, well done!" Metalrock Films ask - and want - real and serious metal fans to be a part of this historic documentary and spread the word that this was the scene where it all began, ground zero.

"Our Fanbacked campaign will raise the direly needed financial support to bring this film to one and all in the US and Internationally in order to pay for the marketing and promotion to get it noticed by the general public. We want to bring this film to your theatre, town, bar, club and living room! Unite and support us. We have created some one of a kind opportunities for our friends and fans to participate with us in birth of this film. Get your name on the screen and let the world know that you support metal and the bands that create it. Help us tell the story of the music you love and let the world know you love it. Join in the festivities of our, and your, accomplishments by being at the premiere of the movie and interact with the artist that participated in its creation. Commemorate your participation with a plaque, t-shirt, poster or other limited edition merchandise items that says 'Metal Rules.' Keep checking back as we add more tasty premiums."And thanks to you and your donation, 'Inside Metal' will finally get the true story of the scene heard - worldwide!

Scarlett Gypsy, (Almost) New Band Alert

Thanks to the power of Twitter, the guys in Scarlett Gypsy tweeted me, alerting me of their existence. The band just released the album All Access and "Is This Love" is the first single. I gotta say, it's not the most produced song I've ever heard, but it sure is Glam. There's good reason: the band started back in 1991, but we all know what happened in the early 90s. A couple decades later, the band is finally getting their shot. Watch. You know what to do.

Charm City Devils Release 'Shots' -- New Track

Catchy, catchy, catchy! Charm City Devils will release their new album Battles on September 23. The first single from that album is "Shots" which feels like a big rocker, but really the song is pretty angry and dark. The official lyric video is below. Hopefully I'll get to see Charm City Devils live again soon.

Let's Talk About Romeo's Daughter!

When we think about 80s glam bands, Romeo's Daughter doesn't get mentioned much. I think they are pretty underrated. Granted, they don't have a lot of albums, but their songs are catchy and production tight, thanks to the one and only Mutt Lange.

Interestingly, the band broke up for years... and then reformed not long ago, releasing a new album and touring. Plus, they will perform at HRH AOR in March. What do you think?
