September 2021 New Music Playlist

Holy crap! I just happened to look at the notifications in my Amazon Music account and I realized that Steely Dan dropped a new album! It is called Northeast Corridor: Steely Dan Live! This is Steely Dan's first live album in 25 years. It is also the first Steely Dan release that does not feature genius Walter Becker. He died in 2017.

In honor of the new album and my love for the band, the September new music playlist will just be this entire album. Yes, it includes all the hits like "Black Cow," "Aja," and "Peg." You can buy as a stream or get the recording as a double-vinyl (click the image). Listen below:

Def Leppard Announces Limited Edition 'Pyromania' Merch

From the company Collectionzz, Def Leppard just launched a limited edition run of Pyromania era merch, including a patch and tour screenprint (poster). I share because I know a few of you have jean jackets with band patches. Looks like the poster is $75, so not cheap! There are only 200 of them and they are hand signed by the artist.

Scrolling through artists, I noticed Motley Crue is listed. There are a lot of nice posters featuring them back in the 80s.

Richie Kotzen Jams With Buckcherry On Stage

My beloved guitar whiz Richie Kotzen joined Buckcherry on-stage Friday night in California. Yes, Josh Todd apparently still performs shirtless every night. Regardless, Kotzen in the best guitarist on stage... despite the fact that he had to play "Crazy Bitch." It's not that I don't like the song, but I am just sick of it. I suppose Buckcherry probably are too!

News Of The Week Roundup: Week 38, 2021

I got my flu shot today, so that's a check-mark on the chore list. My Bengals beat the Steelers today, too which is always a good feeling.

The biggest news for me of the past week was the continued search for Brian Laundrie, the main person of interest in the homicide of Gabby Petito. Gabby's family had a public memorial for her today in her home state of New York. Laundrie is still in the wind. Even Dog the Bounty Hunter is looking for him now. The FBI is on the case. Today, agents visited Laundrie's parents briefly.

The CDC met over COVID-19 booster shots. Folks 65 and older, those with underlying health conditions that make them vulnerable and people in risky jobs (healthcare workers) can now get boosters.

The Cyber Ninja recount of the Arizona presidential election results came in... and Joe Biden won. Again. He even picked up more votes than originally counted via the hand tabulation. Another waste of money! Now Trump is demanding a recount of Texas and the governor is complying. Waste, waste, waste.

This story is cool and odd:

And I leave you with this:

Great White, 'Substitute"

Honest to Glam, I never knew there was an official video for Great White's cover of "Substitute." I saw the video for the first time last night while watching Metal Mayhem on MTV Classic. Yes, it was a swinging Friday night at my house. Just me, Eric, the cat and 80s metal.

I have to say the video wasn't bad but I was mostly just so thrown by how different the members of Great White looked. To be fair, the clip was from like 1984. Plus, the band's self-titled debut never did that much for me. I tend to gravitate toward their later work more and I love ...Twice Shy as a complete work. What am I missing here - should I give "Substitute" another critical listen?

Guns n' Roses Release 'Hard Skool'

Another song from the Chinese Democracy sessions has dropped from Guns n' Roses. The song is called "Hard Skool" and the official audio is below.

You can tell the time period of the vocal recording is from back in the Chinese Democracy days. Axl's voice was very distinctive then. It had a different quality and tone versus the Appetite for Destruction time period. His voice is also different now.

For me, "Hard Skool" is just okay. It's a fine rock track but ultimately not too memorable. Thoughts?
