Final Two Episodes - 'The Making of Patient Number 9'

Recently I posted a video from Ozzy Osbourne, sharing a "behind the scenes" webisode on the creation of his great new album Patient Number 9. I love these little video looks - they are called "The Sabbath Connection" and "Live Forever." Good stuff for a Friday. Happy weekend! I am so glad the work week is done!

Farewell Coolio

Coolio, the rapper who basically the owned the 90s, died suddenly yesterday. He was 59. No cause of death was given but he was visiting a friend at the time. The friend found Coolio collapsed on the bathroom floor and he told TMZ he assumed it was a "cardiac event." Coolio was a life-long sufferer of asthma.

Folks my age - early 40s - will instantly connect Coolio to "Gangsta's Paradise," the song from the soundtrack to Dangerous Minds. I think I saw that movie three times in the theater. Don't judge. It was 1995 and I come from a small town - there was literally nothing else to do.

No doubt Coolio helped make Dangerous Minds a success as the video for "Gangsta's Paradise" featured movie clips. Coolio also had a big hit with "Fantastic Voyage." That was a song my mom really liked and we played it a lot in my house back in the day. Thinking about these tracks definitely takes me back to high school. Good memories for sure.

Los Angeles Pays Respects To Taylor Hawkins

Like the UK version, there was a big Taylor Hawkins tribute concert last night in Los Angeles. Loads of famous musicians came out to show their support - including Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, who played some Motley Crue classics. Wolfgang Van Halen shredded some Van Halen hits again and Sebastian Bach was there too.

The show raised money for Music Support and MusiCares.

30 Years Of 'We All Die Young'

Steelheart has released a lyric video to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the song "We All Die Young" from the movie Rockstar. Of course, the band was Steel Dragon in the film and Mark Wahlberg was lip synching to Miljenko Matijević's vocals. I still say "Milli" has one of the best voices in all of rock. He's promised a 30th anniversary album by the end of the year, too. Something to look forward to!

Styx Announce Las Vegas Residency

If you've never seen Styx live... you'll have the chance this winter in Las Vegas. The band is doing a residency at The Venetian from January 27 - February 4, 2023. In my mind, that isn't exactly a residency so much as an extended run of shows, but whatever. Tickets go on sale Friday. I'm sure tickets will be pricey!

Sunday's Best: Week 39, 2022

Another Sunday, another new David Lee Roth classic Van Halen cover. The new version of "Dance The Night Away" is our Sunday's Best for this week.

Like the other classic songs Roth recently released, "Dance The Night Away" was recorded back in May. Honestly, I continue to be impressed by these new recordings. Roth is 67 years old and his voice is sounding good. Plus, these are a gift to his fans. I dig it.

Also, this is breaking: Rihanna will be the halftime performer for the Super Bowl in February. All the music played in stadiums across America is largely rock and metal... but the halftime show is usually pop. Consider this your free opening to talk "sportsball" should you like. The Bengals are on fire today - about time!

Here It Is: The Hanoi Rocks Reunion Show!

Hanoi Rocks reunited for one night only - to celebrate the 60th birthday of frontman Michael Monroe. The reunion happened last night at Helinki Ice Hall in Finland.

The reunion consisted of Monroe plus Andy McCoy, Sami Yaffa, Nasty Suicide and Gyp Casino. The group hadn't played together live since 1982. This was apparently a one-and-done deal, but super cool nonetheless. Enjoy!
