Happy Hard Rock Halloween

It's Halloween! Monday night isn't a great one for parties, but if you are going out, have fun and be careful. I'll be passing candy and then watching my Bengals on Monday Night Football.

My friend Jim shared a Halloween playlist with me yesterday. It's called "Hard Rock Halloween" from the music geniuses at Amazon. Enjoy it - this would be a good party soundtrack if you are having one tonight.

Sunday's Best: Week 44, 2022

It's just about Halloween and holiday shopping commercials will be pushed on us relentlessly in about 48 hours. In my world, it is still the spooky season and to celebrate, I watched The Munsters, the new Rob Zombie movie.

As a crazy fan of The Munsters TV series, I was really excited for this movie. I specifically waited until Halloween weekend to watch, just for funsies. The movie is available for purchase and also streaming on Netflix, and that is how I viewed the film.

The colors are absolutely beautiful - so many vibrant neon greens and purples, as you would expect from a Zombie flick. The movie is complete camp, which shouldn't be a surprise. I mean, it's over the top ridiculous, but the story is new and folds into The Munsters universe nicely. Since the movie focuses on Lilly and Herman meeting, falling in love and getting married, we get to see their courtship and how the duo plus Grandpa end up moving to Hollywood. This means there is no son Eddie and no niece Marilyn. Instead we get a cast of other whackos that are a whole load of fun.

In the original series, you might recall 1313 Mockingbird Lane features a cuckoo clock that is on the snarky side. The movie has the Raven clock too... and it is voiced by none other than Cinderella drummer Fred Coury.

There are a slew of Easter eggs in the movie - another nod to big Munsters fans. Look, The Munsters won't win an Academy Award, but it is good fun for a couple hours on Halloween - or anytime you just want to slip into a ridiculous world where ghouls walk freely in Transylvania - and sometimes America.

Motley Crue Releases Official Statement Regarding John 5

With the news that Mick Mars has retired from touring, Motley Crue released a statement naming John 5 as the official replacement. John 5 is a beast on the guitar, so no worries there. No doubt the vibe will be different at live shows going forward.

Thank You Mick Mars, For All The Memories

The rumors were true - or at least partially so. Mick Mars, Motley Crue guitarist, will retire from touring. He remains a member of the band, meaning any new music Motley might release should include Mick.

As you probably know, Mick has a debilitating disease called Ankylosing spondylitis which makes moving incredibly painful over time. Mick has been living with the condition for decades.

I was amazed (in a good way!) that Mick made it through The Stadium Tour over the summer. That was a lot of dates and it is clear his condition is worsening. Also, he isn't 30 anymore. No word if John 5 really will replace Mick in the touring version of Motley. I thank Mick for so many good concert memories and I'm glad I got to see the original Crue lineup live many times!

Conquer Divide, 'Paralyzed' - New Track and Video

I've written about Conquer Divide in the past, so you know I love the band. Now the girls are back with a new song and video. The clip below is of "Paralyzed" and the breakdown is fantastic! The song does have a heavy meaning. The band's guitarist Kristen Sturgis is also a critical care nurse and "Paralyzed" is about her depression and ability to process death during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conquer Divide is currently working on more new music.

Michigan Teen Who Loves Glam Featured On Local News Report

So this is a cool story I happened upon by accident: a teenager named Caden Pickering is obsessed with shredding guitar solos by our Glam heroes, especially Slash. He learned to play the guitar a few years ago and apparently practices hours every day. Now he is in a cover band called Ride The Wind, a Poison cover band. The other members of the band are much older than Pickering.

I have a good feeling about this guitar wiz. He's going to grow up and create a massive metal band, I just know it. Who knows - maybe someday I will get to see Caden in Ride The Wind, too!
