Queen + Adam Lambert Headline Global Citizen Festival

The Global Citizen Festival was held this past weekend in New York's Central Park. There were a slew of mega famous musicians during the fest and the show was capped by Queen + Adam Lambert. The festival was broadcast live so many got to see these clips in real time. If not, here's a sample of the show below.

Saxon Frontman Recovers From Heart Surgery

Biff Byford of Saxon is recovering from triple bypass surgery. I wish him well. Biff shared an update on his social media that he is recovering but will be "tired" for awhile. That is an understatement. He will feel knocked on his butt for weeks - possibly months - but if he follows the doctor's instructions will probably be just fine. Saxon's shows planned for 2019 will be rescheduled for sometime in 2020.

Hear 'High Hopes (Early Version)' From Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd will soon release a new boxset called The Later Years. You can now hear a previously unreleased track "High Hopes (Early Version)" via stream or YouTube. Click through the link below to enter a special contest to win a signed Pink Floyd print, too.

I have a lot of affinity for "High Hopes" because I love The Division Bell album. I listened to that CD constantly when I was working on homework in my room. I will say this earlier version of "High Hopes" is nowhere near as smooth as the final product. But it's still interesting to hear and definitely a piece of Floyd history.

Here's the final, album version of "High Hopes." Compare the guitar solos at the end. Listening to the early version again, I have to say there's a lot to like about those initial workings. The initial version seems warmer and definitely longer. Maybe there are more harmonics? The most famous part of "High Hopes" is the slide solo in the final product of course.

I Implore You: Do Not Wait

Another warning guys - do not wait to see your favorite musicians in concert. Most of the folks we love are getting up there in age and they cannot handle touring as in year's past. Time waits for no man. Save a little money from each paycheck, start a concert fund and go when you can!

Good Parenting

I hope the kid got an A. Did anyone else teach their kids about awesome 80s metal bands by the time they reached fifth grade?

Queen + Adam Lambert Announce European Tour

I wish I could go to one of these dates. I do not plan on visiting Europe again until 2021. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Queen + Adam Lambert on their recent American tour. None of the dates lined up for me but all the videos and reviews I've seen all point to an amazing show. They will play to O2 Arena five dates in a row - that's the sign of a mega band still on top of the rock world!

Famous Underrated Songs

You know what song I love and always have? Joe Walsh's classic "Life's Been Good." The song is easily Walsh's biggest solo hit (although "Rocky Mountain Way" is awesome too) and it is basically genius. I was probably 12 or 13 when I heard it for the first tune, clicking through the dial of WEBN. "Life's Been Good" was originally released in 1978 as part of the soundtrack to the movie FM.

The song never fails to make me smile. I mean, I've probably heard "Life's Been Good" around 500 times now and I still chuckle just a little. I can't help it. Walsh called fellow rockstars out way back in the late 70s before Twitter feuds were even a thing - imagine!

As important (and famous) as Joe Walsh is, I feel like you never hear people mention "Life's Been Good" as one of the best rock tunes of the 70s. In fact, I'd say the song is pretty underrated, considering how genius it is. Do you have any favorite famous songs you think are underrated?
