The Hollywood Vampires Pay Tribute To Lemmy

On Monday night, The Hollywood Vampires paid tribute to Lemmy in an awesome performance during the Grammy awards. I fell asleep during the actual broadcast and had to catch up via YouTube. At least there was some real rock during the show this year!

Am I the only one that thinks it woulda been better if Duff woulda just kept quiet and let Alice sing the song by himself?

Cudos to them for doing that, but that was an aweful version of Ace of Spades. You'd think with the amount of time they had to rehearse, they would have worked the kinks out ahead of time, but that was just bad.

this brings to mind another thought...Motorhead songs aren't as easy to play as people think they are. This is mainly because Lemmy's bass-playing style was more like a rhythm guitar than just filling out the bottom end.

I didn't realize motorhead only had one song judging by everybody playing the same damn song, mayb e somebody could throw in chase is better than the catch, my fav motorhead song lol.

I agree, Ace of Spades was flat out horrible. They had no timing, and everything was rushed. First song wasn't bad.

I thought the performance was great!

Yeah, "Ace Of Spades" was a little rough but it still sounded awesome!

What I have a problem with is them performing one of their own songs in a tribute to Lemmy.

I get they are fighting a perception of being a cover band since they have so many on their album. And I get that he influenced them so even playing one of their own tunes is, in a way, a tribute to him.

Yet, I believe it would have been more of a statement if they just kept it all about him and left their own stuff out of it.

Pretty sure it was only partially a tribute to Lemmy not the sole purpose of them doing the show, which is why the Lemmy imagery (pic, amp, boots, etc) was only shown during AoS. Good chance they were booked before he died and the tribute part was added (gotta imagine the Grammy machine gets rolling well before late December).

Producing The Grammys is s moving target, Jack. They are making adjustments 'til right before air, as they did with the line-up when Rhianna pulled out at the last minute.

Besides, I'm not putting it on The Grammys. I'm saying The Hollywood Vampires should have made the decision to only play Motörhead.

GaGa got it right... She didn't sing any of her sh*t during her Bowie tribute. She struck the right tone and so should have The Vampires.

I will also call it like I see it (and you can quote back to me my initial thoughts on this just to see I can eat a piece of humble pie): that wasn't good. It sounded like Perry was playing a different song! Perhaps he thought Run D.M.C. was going to break through the fourth wall. And Depp stole a cap from someone in the E Street Band. Duff? He gets a pass on this one. And Alice was certainly trying, gesturing with his poking stick at the front row to get off his damned lawn.

Part of that has to be on The Grannys. They cut the song off for time's sake. But that is what you get when you pine for a big glossy tribute to a big, bad ass band. Less glossy and less bad ass. Hey, at least we got a puzzled reaction shot of Bruno Mars. That has to count for something.

Good points, HIM... And if The Vampires had cut there own song out, they would have had plenty of time and not got cut off during the reason they were there!

Him, thank you for pointing something out for me. I clearly heard one of the guitarists completely messing up riff after riff, but because I couldn't see it, I didn't know who it was. thanks for clarifying that it was Perry. He was particularly aweful. Whoever was playing bass also didn't have the chops to pull off Lemmy's bass part where he flawlessly alternates between holding down the bottom and filling in that extra riff before each verse.

I'm sure Dep was f*ckin' it up, too, since he can barely play in the first place!

It's cool to see rock and metal in the spotlight again, even if it was only a few minutes. Regardless of the way it sounds, they played tribute to Lemmy on national TV.

I'm just wondering how we (anyone here) knew the HV were there primarily to honor Motorhead? I thought that was an added factor, thought they were booked because it's JD AC and JP adding some GnR guys. Did most people there even know who Lemmy was? Doesn't seem likely given the current state of the Grammy's. Everyone SHOULD know but Lemmy was nowhere near as known as Bowie so comparing LGGs tribute is not really apples = apples).
