KIX Will Play Rock Fest

To be honest, there are not many rock festivals I want to attend any more. They are usually overpriced, with weak lineups and the ticket prices high.

The two I would still love to go to someday are Sweden Rock and Rock Fest, in Cadott, Wisconsin. That said, even Rock Fest used to be more classic rock and Glam bands. Now it sort of looks like every other summer music fest in America, but still. There is supposed to be something magical about Rock Fest at Cadott and I would like to experience it before I get too old to actually enjoy it. This year it looks like there is a pre-party with Kix and Jackyl. Sounds like a blast!

Always wanted to see both bands. Curiosity, mainly. But everyone raves about Kix. I think, within limits, that Jackyl are a hoot. Any reports on either band live from our fearless friends?

The list of bands at this fest thins out pretty quickly for me. Zombie is always good for a cartoonish laugh and has some decent songs. Manson is also good for a theatrical set if he doesn't get 'ill." Stryper, another band I have never seen, is also likely to be good . . . with or without the backing tracks!

Then it gets iffy. Statix-X . . . without the singer?!?! Hmm (not that I really cared for them that much to begin with). And why is Skillet at all of these shows? Did they pay someone? And Jacob Cade sure has some pythons. Right, ladies?

All goofing aside, ticket prices seem fair by today's standards. And I bet the experience would be great. As per usual, it would be nice to get a report/review from someone if they do attend. I say that quite a bit. But it is generally crickets.

Wednesday’s Bonus bash is Seniors night at Rock Fest! Show ‘me how it’s done boys.

Rest o’ the fest is ‘90’s yawn schlock Rock. Zombie and Manson I suppose will be the kids Alice Cooper; closing out the festivities.

Was a huge Manson fan from Antichrist to Holy Wood, three albums that solidify his big influence on the ‘90’s. My money will not go here this summer.

Stryper is good & Zombie is cartoonish? Lmao ok bro whatever you say. Just wow, I'm speechless. That dude up there in the clouds has you in delusion land.

Saw jackyl twice back in the day, and they were great both times. Saw them at Radio City Music Hall opening up for Damn Yankees. the other time was at a small club in Allentown, PA, but I know I've told that story here before because my best friend and I nearly got into a fight with the singer from the opening band. As far as festivals go, the old weed-smoking hippie in me would love to go to Lockn some day. fortunately, siriusXM broadcasts that festival live each year, so at least I can listen to it without having to go all the way to Arrington, VA.

Kix and Jackyl are money n the bank live. They're Can't miss. As I've stated here numerous times, I'm a Rob Zombie fan. Dude has been laughing all the way to the bank for a long time now, playing the whole satanic/occult/shock rock card, while releasing simplistic, slamming songs. I dare you to listen to "Sick Bubblegum and not move any part of your body to the driving beat.
Also, John 5 is quite possibly the most talented, diversified guitarist walking the Earth. Pick a genre. He will give you EVH, Les Paul, Roy Clark, and Al DiMeola in the span of a 5 minute solo. Dude can do country/bluegrass "chicken pickin" better than most of the Nashville studio musicians, and yet he plays with Rob Zombie made up like a demon from the 5th level of hell. Lol

Haha!!, Gary! Obviously, YOU’RE the FUNNY one!

HIM, I think you need to get some KIX in the a*s for not having seen them yet!

Oh, and for what it's worth, I saw Kix opening up for the Brian Howe-era Bad Company in about '89 or '90. Like jackyl when I saw them, Kix were great.

Thanks for the feedback on the bands, people. Appreciate it.

Gary, I have been in awe of John 5 since his DLR days. Watching him live is amazing. I am no musician (you know that). But I always find myself looking in his direction.

You are right, Metalboy! Why I haven't seen Kix (no less Jackyl or Stryper) is beyond me. I am going to claim a busy schedule and them not touring near me often enough But that is an excuse.

Bkallday, I meant the cartoonish thing as a compliment (he is almost literally a walking and talking and singing B-move horror show). I love Zombie live. And I was making a joke about Stryper and also nodding to the fact that I have never seen them. I thought I was being clear. Maybe I wasn't. My thoughts on Stryper are documented on this site in previous posts. Enough said. But feel free to chime in again. I love our back-and-forth banter. It is like a slow dance at a weird prom. I think, just to be safe, I would let you lead!

Understandable, HIM!

As KIX are now on occasion traveling farther and farther away from the Hair Metal Chittlin’ Circuit, most likely as part of packages like this one (Same bands, different weekend), perhaps they will either play in your area or you will catch them in Vegas or thereabouts, which, from what I can tell, is a town you frequent given the right opportunity.

I think you will find both KIX and Stryper akin to a life altering experience for a Glam Metallist such as yourself.

May it happen soon as I’m sure you will have a Rockin’ good time!

Rock fest veteran here, been there many times. Since years VIP, some ga, sometimes camp, sometimes hotel, sometimes once day, sometimes the whole weekend. Great venue and so much fun in the campground. You have to visit the tepees :) sad that what is stated is true. It's turned into this run of the mill fest vs. What it used to be. And that was diversity of "rock"fest. Classic rock, glam, metal, nu, etc... they always had diversity until the past few years. If you didn't like the band, you just went to one of the 4 side taverns- stages to fix your fancy on what you want to hear. It used to run Thursday - Sunday, they switched to wed to Saturday. You usually can only get in Wednesday if you buy the whole weekend. But still a good venue, summertime in northern Wisconsin is gorgeous.

Thanks for sharing those thoughts, GNR. Doubt you will read this. But I appreciate you giving your perspective. You make it sound awesome . . . but also sorta' like what happened to Rocklahoma. Too bad I didn't venture farther afield a few years ago to see some of these events. My bad.
