Not a die hard at all. I like individual songs from the other albums, but I like the whole Psycho City album. It just works together really well as a whole. Love Kendall’s guitar work and his solos are just tasty and I love Lardie’s piano playing on Old Rose Motel and Love is Only A Lie. Then deep cuts like Doctor Me just round out the album nicely. I listen to this all the time.
You are probably right about Badlands. I probably overestimated that one a bit.
I’m a big Lynch fan but readily admit his discography is spotty. I think the first two Lynch albums are very good, then he messed things up by chasing trends, before righting the ship with Smoke and Mirrors (which I think is great), Sound Mountain Sessions (very good), Sun Red Sun (very good), Rebel (meh), and The Brotherhood (very good).
But, of course, in addition to LM, he has so many other projects he gets involved with: Souls of We, KXM, End Machine, Sweet and Lynch, Ultraphonix, Dirty Shirley, solo albums....and so on. I’m sure I missed a few. I actually like some of them. I’m not sure the issue is that he “can’t concentrate on only one” of them. Maybe it’s partly that. But I think that’s just the business mode he has been forced to adopt to get by due to the realities of the business, his own past mistakes, and his own difficult personality. As Lynch Mob never really broke through, there’s not enough money in it to keep guys like Oni on board on a consistent basis, specially because i think he’s a tough guy get along with. Maybe if there was money in it, Oni or Mason or whoever would suck it up and stay, but it’s just not worth it when getting paid peanuts playing to 150 people at small clubs.
But, he’s enough of a name that he gets invited to various projects, which probably help him pay the bills. In other words, I don’t think the reason he can’t keep Oni in the fold and can’t keep Lynch Mob on tour for long is because he’s busy with the other projects. He does the other projects because there’s hardly any money in Lynch Mob.
Total speculation on my part, though.
