Aerosmith on '60 Minutes'

Did you watch 60 Minutes last night and see the special Aerosmith feature? I was excited for the feature all week... and ended up cringing during the entire segment. The relationship between the band members seems brutal right now. Who knows if this is accurate or a result of selective editing, but it was pretty upsetting for a lifelong fan like me.

Journalist Lara Logan got to travel with the band during their recent South American tour. The segment showed live show performance video in addition to the traditional interview content. Most of the piece focused on lead singer Steven Tyler and his relationship with the rest of the band.

"He wouldn't be on that show if he wasn't in the band, being part of Aerosmith," guitarist Joe Perry said when asked about Steven Tyler's position as a judge on 'American Idol.'

Things sort of went downhill - Tyler was in a contentious mood. Of the other band members, he said "I think my perfectionism and my busting everyone's chops is what got this band to where it is today." When talking about the rest of the band he even said, "They ride my coattail... They don't like me."

You can read the entire interview transcript on the 60 Minutes website. Here's some special backstage content that was not aired on television.

Def Leppard, Poison, Lita Ford Tour Announced

To say that I am disappointed with the third act on the bill is a bit of an understatement. I guess since Poison/Def Leppard just toured together a few years ago, I assumed the third act would be a significant draw. I'm not slagging on Lita Ford in any way - but she's not as big a name as some other bands this tour could have attracted. Most people thought the extra band would be Twisted Sister - I think that would have made sense.

The Def Lep/Poison/Lita tour will last 32 days, and start in June.

“We had such a good time going out with Poison in 2009 that we thought it only right to do it again,” Joe Elliott said in the press release announcing the tour.

More dates are expected to be announced soon. No official info on ticketing yet, but I'm sure fanclub VIP packages will be available. There is one date (Atlanta, June 29) up on Ticketmaster already that lists prices at $31 - $131.

I gotta admit, I'm on the fence about this one. I'm trying to save money so I can get really good seats for Aerosmith, but I always get sucked in by Def Leppard and Poison. Always.

Here are the dates/venues:

Jun. 20 - Salt Lake City, UT @ USANA Amphitheater
Jun. 22 - Irvine, CA @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre

Scorpions, 'Comeblack' -- Album Review

As The Scorpions criss-cross the globe on their farewell tour, the band is also celebrating a new album release. The album, called Comeblack, is a little mystifying in that it is half old Scorps tunes rerecorded… and the other half covers. In the liner notes, the band explains their desire to record again: “This album is an encore for our diehard fans, saying thank you for all the support for so many years. At the same time this is a tribute to legendary bands from the sixties like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones who inspired us to follow our dreams.”

The first half of the record is comprised of all the famous Scorpions tunes, like “No One Like You” and Wind of Change.” While I’m not big on rerecorded albums – because really, what is the point? – I have to give the Scorps props on this one. Klaus Meine still sounds downright fantastic and in a lot of cases it is hard to tell whether the track is a redux or the original. That’s talent right there.

The more interesting part of the record is the covers, the best being “Tainted Love” (Gloria Jones) and “Ruby Tuesday” (Rolling Stones).

The main thing about Comeblack is that it is an album you don’t need… but if you are a Scorpions fan, you’ll probably want it to fill out your collection. Plus, the production is top notch and the sound is huge.  Comeblack is the last studio album the Scorpions will ever record, so it’s like owning a little piece of history as well.

Tracklisting:

01. Rhythm Of Love
02. No One Like You
03. The Zoo
04. Rock You Like A Hurricane
05. Blackout
06. Still Loving You
07. Wind Of Change

Covers:

08. Tainted Love (GLORIA JONES)
09. Children Of The Revolution (T. REX)
10. Across The Universe (THE BEATLES)
11. Tin Soldier (SMALL FACES)

13. Ruby Tuesday (THE ROLLING STONES)

Eddie Van Halen Lands on TMZ

Ok, I love Eddie Van Halen... and TMZ. I'm not ashamed to admit I look at the site each night just to catch up on celeb gossip. Imagine my surprise when I find Eddie Van Halen on the site... carrying his tiny dog. Apparently Eddie has a tiny dog that he loves... and defends. I'm pretty sure it's a sign of something good when our glam and metal heroes end up on TMZ.

Tesla to Tour with the Scorpions

Did you know that Tesla are heading out with the Scorpions this summer? The Scorpions will invade America for a final time as part of their Final Sting tour. I actually think this is an absolutely brilliant pairing - and the bill would be even better with another band (or two) added as well. If the Scorps added someone like a Dokken, Jackyl or Kix, the package would be *massive* for fans of our music. Of course, none of the dates are stopping anywhere near me... which sort of seems to be a theme this year. Of course, tour announcement season is young, so here's hoping some bands actually decide to stop in Ohio this summer. Anyway, here are those Scorps/Tesla dates:

June
9 - Mountain View, CA - Shoreline Amphitheatre
12 - Morrison, CO - Red Rocks Amphitheatre
14 - Albuquerque, NM - Hard Rock Casino Albuquerque Presents The Pavilion
15 - Phoenix, AZ - Comerica Theatre
17 - Tucson, AZ - Anselmo Valencia Amphitheater
22 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
23 - Las Vegas, NV - Thomas & Mack Center

Both the Scorpions and Tesla have loads of other dates scheduled - just not with each other. Check out their respective websites for dates and tickets.

It Finally Happened: Vince Neil Gets His Own Strip Club

Boom.

You knew it would happen at some point: Vince Neil is now the proud proprietor of a strip joint. Naturally, the club is called Vince Neil's Girls, Girls, Girls.

Yep.

The club will open in Las Vegas, the city of sin that Vince calls home. Vince says Girls, Girls, Girls will be different than most strip clubs because it will be "a rock n' roll joint." Vince says the girls will be more edgier than in "average" strip clubs. Dancers will be allowed to have tattoos and sexier outfits (whatever that means). He also promises better music and the sexiest girls in town.

Girls, Girls, Girls opens in a couple weeks.  It will be located on Tropicana Avenue, about a mile from the world famous Las Vegas strip.

Oh, and apparently the opening of the club will be chronicled in a new reality series. Just what the world needs, right?
