Tesla to Tour with the Scorpions

Did you know that Tesla are heading out with the Scorpions this summer? The Scorpions will invade America for a final time as part of their Final Sting tour. I actually think this is an absolutely brilliant pairing - and the bill would be even better with another band (or two) added as well. If the Scorps added someone like a Dokken, Jackyl or Kix, the package would be *massive* for fans of our music. Of course, none of the dates are stopping anywhere near me... which sort of seems to be a theme this year. Of course, tour announcement season is young, so here's hoping some bands actually decide to stop in Ohio this summer. Anyway, here are those Scorps/Tesla dates:

June
9 - Mountain View, CA - Shoreline Amphitheatre
12 - Morrison, CO - Red Rocks Amphitheatre
14 - Albuquerque, NM - Hard Rock Casino Albuquerque Presents The Pavilion
15 - Phoenix, AZ - Comerica Theatre
17 - Tucson, AZ - Anselmo Valencia Amphitheater
22 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center
23 - Las Vegas, NV - Thomas & Mack Center

Both the Scorpions and Tesla have loads of other dates scheduled - just not with each other. Check out their respective websites for dates and tickets.

I've been to over 400 concerts in my lifetime and have never seen the Scorps nor Tesla and I love both bands. They are coming to the Dallas area on this tour and I WILL be there! I, too, wish they would add a third band to the bill...maybe a Tooth & Nail/Dokken/Lynch Mob or maybe on of the yound Swedish sleaze/glam bands.

Finally ~ a promoter or concert organizer gets it right. Just plain old rock n roll with an edge.

I've got my tix reserved for Merriweather in July already. It will be interesting to see who the openers are. I know they are talking with a couple bands for the eastern US leg. KIX is one of them as is Michael Schenker (MSG).

Rock-It, not sure if the Scorps have buried the hatchet with former bass player Francis Bucholz (if that's how his name is spelled). The reason I mention this is because Francis, as well as former Scorp Herman Rarebell, play in MSG now.

July 11th in Philly. I am there.

GODDAMN IT nothing remotely close. I drove 9 hours to see Tesla last year, and would do it again to see this,,,

Sometimes I despise the 'Pacific Northwest'- Yeah we have mild winters but no support for a show like this is sooo lame.

I'm really bummed this package (OR EVEN JUST THE SCORPS for that matter) aren't coming anywhere near me. THIS PACKAGE AT RED ROCKS...WOW, Jealous!

SCORPS LIVE ARE FANTASTIC!!!

Mike! You drove 5 hours to see Tesla? That's pretty funny considering I had two opportunities on The Monsters of Rock Cruise a couple of weeks and completely skipped 'em.

Why? With the exception of a few songs...BORING!

Will probably see these guys at Merriweather and/or Jones Beach. I don't believe they are currently scheduled with an opener at this time, but I would be perfectly fine if it was Tesla as I could catch up on some sleep during their performance.

Scorpions are Killerific and that's what this post should really be about. Stoked to see 'em and will probably wind up goin' thru the brokers (unfortunately) to catch 'em point blank. They're that unreal live, as Kari reminds us!

p.s. Mike -- Here's even more fuel to the fire. I was hangin' out late (this was around 4 a.m.) talkin' to one of the off duty security guys and some crazed and flaky promoter at the bar up top on MORC the night after Tesla played. I had just skipped Tesla for Faster Pussycat and Cinderella, two vastly superior bands, if you're into REAL Rockin' Glam Metal, not 80's Melodic
Hard Rock. In rolls that Tesla goofball guitarist, Frank Hannon, on his way to stuff his face at the adjacent 24-hour cafeteria. He stopped to talk to us and I went all Clint Eastwood on the conversation, just eyin' the guy, squintin' at him thru my cigarette smoke, listening skeptically. He kept lookin' at me, lookin' for my nod of approval and I gave him nothin' back. Look, the guy's a helluva guitarist but he also thinks he's hot sh*t and, sorry, but Metalboy! don't play that.

Hey Metalboy are you going to do a review on the Mosters of Rock cruise?

Wow, you are so cool, Metalboy.

I was also on the MOR cruise and got to meet Frank Hannon. I think metalboys distaste for Tesla might have influenced his opinion of Frank Hannon. He seemed very genuine and gracious. Actually all the artists on the cruise were extremely cordial. It was a fantastic experience!!!!!!

Hahaha!!! Ain't sayin' I'm cool, ont by a longshot, Forge, but I am sayin', based on what I've personally observed on two cruises now, is Frank Gannon is a self-important jack*ss!

Sorry Metalboy... I almost always agree with you when reading your posts. Tesla rocks... plain and simple. And to even mention that Faster Pussycat is a "vastly superior band" ? C'mon ?!?! I like me some pussycat, but lets be real.

Sorry that your run-ins with Franky Hannon haven't been the greatest. But through many after shows of Tesla at the Merch counter or sitting at the bar later on... Franky has been nothing but gracious and friendly. And aren't most guitarists/rock stars a little pompous anyways ?

11th Row for the Scorps & Tesla at the RED ROCKS !!! I Can't wait !!!

I've seen Tesla at least 5 times, mostly in theatre style venue and they were great, once in a bar it was amazing...I'm also a big fan of Pussycat and Cinderella so I'm not sure which way I would sit on this one...I'm usually in totally agreement with Metalboy but this time I would probably guzzle a case of beer and smoke a pack of smokes and argue it out with him all in the name of fun!...interesting all the same though!

Personally I'd take Cinderella out of the 3 of them'but that's just my opinion....
March 11, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGary
And also,(once again, just my opinion) The Scorps blow the 3 of them off of the map.
March 11, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGary
Agreed, Gary!

Hey, GNR, though it might seem amusing to drink and smoke up a storm a la Dr. Hunter S. Thompson to argue about something as stupid as Tesla, we got more important things to debate. Though they are excellent musicians and do have A FEW Rockin' songs, overall Tesla are unsophisticated ludites, totally lacking in humor, wit and cleverness. So, I'd just as soon skip The Great Tesla Debate and talk about anything else, if for nothing more than the fear of falling asleep!

I first saw The Scorpions in 1979 on their Lovedrive tour in San Antonio, Tx. I've been hooked ever since, seeing them 2 more times in California in the 80's. Now I have tickets to see them one last time in San Antonio, Tx. I can hardly wait!
