After shopping and dinner to kill time, me and the brother get in line. Judging by the people in line I'm starting to think that the band is starting to get the credit they deserve. There were about a million (okay a few hundred) teenage girls still, but the mix was more metalheads, a lot of younger kids, teenagers, and many more adults than I expected. The line was a joke which stretched halfway down the street. We stood in the freezing cold, but not too long as it only took us fifteen minutes to get to the front of the line. Once inside, we purchased our T-shirts, ($50 dollars later) and waited around for the first band. I can't remember their name but they were just a local band. It was more death metal and deathcore, which isn't really my cup of tea, but I got their CD just to give it a try, at least that's what is keeping the metal alive.
If Black Veil Brides wasn't Glam enough, the music playing before the second band William Control was! They were busting out Motley Crue with "Girls, Girls, Girls," Van Halen's "You Really Got Me" and even some Iron Maiden. William Control was a joke! It was pre-recorded techno, with a guy singing over the top of it. They had a bassist that was hardly playing. I didn't know any songs, so I wont go into detail. If you want your ears to bleed, look them up. As show time carried on, they blasted Pantera, Metallica, and Guns n' Roses as Black Veil Brides were about to go on. I like Black Veil Brides as much as the next guy, but I don't want to hear their name being chanted when Pantera is playing. Anyway, the Brides opened up with the two first songs off the new album, "Exordium" and "I Am Bulletproof" which were a definite highlight for me. Then they played "New Religion" which is probably my favorite Black Veil Brides song, but unfortunately it didn't do so well live in my opinion. The other songs they played early on were "Resurrect The Sun," "We Don't Belong" and "Wretched and Devine" which all transferred live. Andy and Ashley looked like a cross between Nikki Sixx and Marilyn Manson. The guys in Black Veil Brides mentioned looking up to bands like Generation X and Motley Crue and Andy even said "We wanted to kick their ass someday" then they covered Billy Idol with "Rebel Yell" and the whole place went totally crazy. Other songs played were "Rebel Love Song" and "Youth and Whiskey" which were astoundingly amazing. The only bad parts about the night were William Control and "New Religion." Everything else was perfect and fit in perfect. The last song they said they were gonna play was "Fallen Angels." This obviously got the crowd worked up, wanting one more song. They came back out and played "In The End," which was a perfect closer. All in all it was a good night minus William Control. If you have a chance to see Black Veil Brides, you should go. You will not be sorry.
(Oh by the way Metalboy! asked if they used backing tapes: they did for "Exordium" and that was it. Jinxx came out and played violin when needed in the song.)
