Scott Henthorn is a Cincinnati area musician and friend to our own Kenny Ozz. Scott has a new project called Attn Deficit Squirrel and has produced a few new songs. I was listening to these tracks last night and my husband thought I was listening to Red Jumpsuit Apparatus which is quite a compliment!
Hearing music like this reminds us that there is talent everywhere. We just have to look for it.
Judging by the Attn Deficit Squirrel Facebook page, I would say Scott has been working on these tracks since 2017, so this is not a fly by night sort of project. Perhaps we will see more from this band in the future. Give the links below a listen if you would like to hear some new, underground music.
Despite the recent Blabbermouth article below quoting Bret Michaels as saying he does not know the status of "The Stadium Tour" some folks with tickets received emails yesterday about show postponement. From my research, it looks like ticket holders for the Cincinnati and Chicago shows receive postponement alerts. Now it is possible these dates were postponed because of Major League Baseball. The baseball season is expected to start July 4th weekend. The Cincinnati show is July 2. I also think these emails went out early, in error, since all the bands said the official announcement would come June 1.
We have been over this before: no one thinks this tour will happen now. Kenny Chesney just postponed his summer stadium tour and moved the dates to 2021. I expect this is what will happen with "The Stadium Tour" too. I still would prefer to just have my money back. It is hard enough to plan when tickets go on sale six or eight months in advance. Holding tickets to a show in the summer of 2021 is a lot and will cause many problems for people. I suppose we have to financially float Ticketmaster at this point.
We all need this right now. Our beloved Alice Cooper, master of all things rock and macabre, has just dropped a new song for us. The track is called "Don't Give Up" and it was produced by Bob Ezrin. The song was made via remote technology during the pandemic quarantine.
You might recall I posted the link where you could upload photos of yourself to be in this video. Do you see yourself or anyone you know? If so, let me know in the comments section!
American-ported cruises will not sail until August (at the earliest). Now KISS Kruise X, originally planned for October 30 - November 4, 2020 aboard Norwegian Pearl, will not sail until October of 2021.
After the dust settles, the travel and tourism industry will end up being the hardest hit from the novel coronavirus pandemic. With no concerts of any magnitude happening this summer, essentially no cruising and most amusement parks either closed or opening very late, the lost revenue just keeps climbing. Add in air travel because no one either wants to or cannot fly and that just adds more downside pressure to the battered industry.
I love cruising myself. I have two booked for 2021: one in January and one in October. I will cancel the one in January for sure and the thought of being on a big ship with a zillion other people right now honestly does make me queasy. It is not surprising that KISS went ahead and moved this sailing. Paul Stanley announced the cancellation via video, noting the news really was not a surprise. Stanley also mentioned restrictions that would be less than ideal. I think that is the other side of the coin for me and so many others. I do not really want to spend a few thousand dollars on a vacation and run the risk of being trapped in my cabin due to outbreak, being forced to wear a mask 24/7, have limitations on pool and gym hours, no spa, etc. With so many unknowns, it would be hard to plan a regular cruise, let alone a rock boat where the entire point is to crowd together and watch concerts for hours each day.
The sold out cruise also features Queensryche, RATT and Chris Jericho. Passengers will have their reservation automatically moved to the new sailing date.
Thinking about Tiffany and LA Guns teaming up yesterday made me ponder about some of the other odd metal and rock duets over the years. Sometimes mash-ups work and bring two fan bases together. Other times, these duets seem contrived and flop. Here's my list of the oddest metal and rock duets of them all.
Def Leppard & Tim McGraw – Nine Lives (2008)
I never got this one. I have a bias against country music. I just do not like it so I always cringe when I hear rock bands team up with country stars. This duet is especially bad in my opinion.
In another life I worked for an orchestra doing PR. I have a soft spot in my heart for classical. Still, I always thought it was a little odd when Metallica teamed up with the San Francisco Orchestra. That said, the combo just plain worked and the results are epic. The version of "Nothing Else Matters" below is my favorite - even more so than the original studio recording.
Remember that time that Alice in Chains teamed up with Elton John to make the track "Black Gives Way To Blue?" Written by Jerry Cantrell as a tribute to the late Layne Staley, the song is a beautiful memory and showcases the absolute brilliance and flexibility of Elton John.
In 1989, KISS released an album called Hot In The Shade... and they collaborated with Michael Bolton. In fact, Bolton helped them write "Forever," one of their most commercially successful tracks. I wonder how many folks had "Forever" at their wedding reception in 1990? I bet the song was the fodder for prom themes, too. I was only in fifth grade when this song came out and I did not know Bolton's role until many years later!
I think this counts: Insane Clown Posse tapped Alice Cooper for some scary intros to the album The Great Milenko. Alice's voice really does give the intro instant spooky street cred. When I was a freshman undergrad, I was placed with a complete stranger for a roommate like most everyone else. My roommate that year loved ICP and would play them constantly so I have some fond memories of their late 90s output. That is The Great Milenko era if you were not sure. Speaking of this album, Slash performs on Halls of Illusions too.
This is the list off the top of my head. Honorable Mention goes to Damn Yankees: Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades. Obviously Blades and Shaw are friends and fit together... but Ted with them always seemed odd to me. Even still, that supergroup sure worked!
You read that headline right - 80s Pop Princess Tiffany has teamed up with LA Guns (Tracii's version, minus Phil Lewis) for a song on her upcoming new album. Apparently she is evolving her sound and going heavier. Good for her! The new album is called Shadows. Before that, she will release Pieces Of Me Unplugged on May 22.
I am definitely ready to hear that LA Guns collaboration!

I'm a sucker for a great bass line. For me, the bass line is what makes a rock song, period. There are so many great bass lines in rock history and it is hard to narrow things down to a Top 10 but we might as well try! I mean, I am just sitting over here in COVID quarantine, listening to music and thinking deep thoughts. Here is my top 10 best bass lines of all time. Be sure to leave me your picks in the comments section.
The list is in no real order - these just happen to be some of my favorite songs of all time.
