KIX Drummer Jimmy Chalfant Recovering After Collapsing On Stage

KIX was performing in Leesburg, Virginia last night. Toward the end of the show, drummer Jimmy Chalfant collapsed and emergency services were called. Jimmy has had a heart attack before but it isn't clear what happened to him last night during the show (the band says it was a cardiac event, but maybe not a heart attack).

KIX touring guitarist Bob Pare posted on Facebook that Jimmy was doing much better overnight thanks to medical care. I know you all join me in wishing Jimmy a full recovery. We love KIX around these parts!

Here's a Facebook post Bob shared:

KIX did release an official statement that says basically what Bob posted above. Here's the statement the band issued to Blabbermouth and you can read more by clicking on the Tweet below:

"KIX drummer Jimmy Chalfant is awake, alert, resting comfortably and in good spirits in the hospital after collapsing towards the end of their performance at the Tally-Ho Theater in Leesburg, Virginia on night one of a two nights stint. While clearly a cardiac event, it is unknown at this time whether or not Jimmy actually suffered a heart attack. Jimmy will be undergoing a series of tests to determine exactly what in fact occurred. The second performance scheduled for this evening (Saturday Nov 19th) is understandably postponed with a makeup date pending the prognosis of Jimmy's condition. KIX appreciates the outpouring of love and concern for Jimmy and thank everyone for their courteous understanding in the matter."

Sunday's Best: Week 34, 2022

Last week was crazy busy for me. Looking ahead, I hope the next few days are a bit calmer.

I had my big KIX show on Friday night and the review is our Sunday's Best for the week. It was outside at a place called J.D. Legends in Franklin, Ohio which is only a few miles from my house. The concerts take place outside and the fans stand in the sand because the place also has volleyball leagues. There's also a bowling alley and yes, it's a bar, too. Anyway, the place is unique. The weather was nice for a show and it was pleasant being outside. The crowd was oddly small.

I stood on guitarist Brian Forsythe's side - as always - because I like to watch him play. Dude wears a scarf, even in August. Eric commented, "Oh, Mark (Schenker) has his light-up bass still" and chuckled. Yes, drummer Jimmy Chalfant looked the same too.

KIX are always tight live and Friday was no exception. There was no rap in the middle of "Cold Shower" and singer Steve Whiteman didn't spin around like a whirling dervish because of sciatica problems (I can relate!) but most everything else was your standard KIX show. I got to hear "Love Me With Your Top Down" which is always cool. KIX played for about 80 minutes and the set also included "Sex" which doesn't always get performed. We didn't get "Poison" or "Red Light, Green Light, TNT" but every other track you would think of including "Don't Close Your Eyes," "Blow My Fuse"and "Scarlet Fever" was performed. Temporary guitarist Bob Pare sounded just great and is a solid stand-in for Ronnie Younkins. He did a short guitar solo which was impressive! Oh, and Steve wore his signature sequins!

Before KIX, Resist & Bite performed. That's Tommy Skeoch's band - you'll recall he used to be in Tesla. Their Tesla covers sounded tight and I honestly didn't know any of their originals, but I will check them out further now. The band's first-ever live show was at J.D. Legends, so the crowd was pretty attentive to them.

My KIX Countdown Has Begun

It dawned on me today that I am seeing KIX live - this month! In fact, I'll be seeing them in 17 days. It's been so long since I've seen them perform. Literally years... and I can't wait to see them in action again. Naturally, they still sound great. I found some live clips of them taken just a few days ago. I hope they have good merchandise. I want a new T-shirt!

Sunday's Best: Week 21, 2022

It's been a great holiday weekend for me so far. The weather is nice and warming, I'm doing summer things and I bought some concert tickets for a show that's coming super close to my house! KIX is actually playing southern Ohio this August. I did a double-take when I saw the announcement and bought GA seats right as soon as sales opened Friday morning. Seeing a beloved band in a surprise show close to home is our Sunday's Best for this week. Also the tickets were cheap at $25 a head.

It's been a few years since I've seen KIX live. They never come to Ohio and I haven't been to M3 in years or on the Monsters of Rock cruise ever. They are one of those bands that always bring it live, never sound bad and are criminally underrated. Since their live shows are so sparse outside of the east coast, I fully expect KIX at JD Legends this August to sell out well in advance of the show. If you are around the area, come to the show and we can hang out!

KIX - Live At M3 Rock Festival Last Night

A decent quality video of the entire KIX set last night at M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland. Crowd looks good, especially since I believe the weather was pretty bad last night. Seems like a fun time. I'll be looking for more M3 YouTube content throughout the weekend!

Ronnie Younkins Gives New Interview

Ronnie Younkins, also known as "Ronnie 10/10," is a guitarist in Kix. He has had a long and public battle with sobriety and was recently away from the band seeking treatment. It seems Ronnie is doing better and ready to play again. He just gave a new interview last night where he talked about his sobriety and making new music. Long live Kix!
