'Jet City Woman' - Acoustic Version

The guys in Queensryche are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Empire. A couple days ago, a radio station held a special event at a casino in Snoqualmie, Washington with the band to hype the 20th anniversary Empire package. The cool part is that Queensryche did some acoustic versions of their songs...including my favorite "Jet City Woman." I don't think I've ever heard "Jet City Woman" acoustic before...so I wanted to post here. The clip below has an interview on the front, so just weed through that part.

This is so cool! Queensryche are one of the most under-appreciated bands, ever. Geoff sounds incredible as usual. This has always been one of my favorite songs by them, the lyrics are just beautiful. "Without you I can't breathe, you're the air to me." That may sound simple, but when he sings it, you can feel it. Thanks for posting this, you've made my morning. :)

Great band. Stellar musicianship, great lyrics, one of the best frontmen in the business. Operation Mindcrime is one of the alltime great concept albums. I'm just waiting on Metalboy to show up and tell me how crappy and "unrock" they are.

That said...

I just bought a cool looking jet-shaped 7" picture disc of "Jet City Woman" officially released around the time this song came out. INHO, this is one of only a handful of songs they ever did that truly ROCKS and I actually like!

That and the absolute CLASSIC, "Queen Of The Reich", which is the first thing I ever heard when this band first hit the scene. It was only after this when it seemed like Jeff Taint wound up looking in the mirror a tad too much.

Still you can't take what they did well back in the beginning away from them.

The rest of it is RUSH minus the 5th Chipmunk from Alvin & The Chipmunks as the singer.

Oh, and yeah, I'll give you Operation Mindcrime, too. Though not totally my cup of tea, that duzn't stop me from realizing it really is a helluva concept album with some damned catchy stuff on it! And cool lyrics, too!

Rage for Order is still my favorite Ryche recording. Once again, there's nothing wrong with writing about something other than sex, booze and women, and I don't understand the mindset of the folks that slam bands such as Queensryche, Rush, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, etc. just because they are something other than a party rock band such as Poison, Crue, and the hundreds of others like them. You're discounting some truly great rock n roll when you do that.

I did have some more thoughts on how I see Maiden, though, if you or anyone else is interested in where I see 'em in the pecking order of the Rock Pantheon. Whether I LIKE 'em or not, is not the point, but rather how I see 'em in the METAL WORLD...

Okay, so everyone knows I think Maiden is a complete and utter borefest but I do recognize they do have some position in the Metal World...

though I don't like 'em, I know they are good enough to be in a position like so...

Better than Twisted Sister (though I don't like them as much) but not even in the same ball park as Priest.

And as far as Queensryche goes, Rich, I'll check out Rage of Order. Though I do have a kind of Love/Hate thing for 'em, I do like them the best of all of the other crap you listed and actually a lot better than a lot of my crap in The Almighty Glam Metal Canon!

Well I'm glad to see that you're not tearing down the mighty Priest. Although I'm a little perplexed by your apparent affinity for Turbo, which in my book ranks well after British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Point of Entry. Probably after Defenders of the Faith as well. And maybe even after Angel of Retribution.

And for the record, I understand that the website is called "Bring Back Glam" but I didn't think that precluded any discussion of any other microgenre of rock music. I'm guessing that for many that peruse this website, their taste in music runs from glam to more traditional metal (perhaps even including progressive rock!), so it doesn't seem necessary to quash any discussion of anything that may fall outside the rather narrow domain of glam metal.

Are you kidding! I love the arguing! I only add fuel to the fire by saying you should get lost. Besides that's not what Al is about, as evidenced for her undying love for both Hall $ Oates AND Iron Maiden (I've got "Abandoned Luncheonette" and "Number Of The Beast" as well as this other Iron Maiden crap Shadow's got me listening to).

It's almost as scary as the fact that all of this made me take stock in my CDs only to realize the equally mortifying reality that I possess both Barry Manilow and Miles Davis both in the same collection.

But in all honesty, I personally wish it was more solely devoted to Glam Metal and that sort of thing because there is so much of it out there most people have never heard. I know this, because I just went through and I'm still going through the process of discovering every possible Glam Metal Band circa '80 to the present. Perhaps it's necessary to put forth more popular subjects totally off the track to keep readership up or for whatever reason it may be, but I think it could all be done with strictly Glam Metal. But that's just me and I ain't runnin' the show here so for now I'll shut... ughhhhh....uuuuupppppp!!!!!
