Hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but really? donate to help make a video? Lame. I'm with Brian. If I'm donating money it will be to a charity.

I agree. I like these guyz but you can shoot cool video for 5 bux if you are resourceful snuff and have a clever concept. It's about ideas not $$$!!!

I'm with everybody else... There are a ton of more worthy causes to donate to.

As far as making a decent video, as someone said, it can be done on a shoestring budget. The new WILDSTREET video for "Poison Kiss" was done for next to nothing. And what a great video that is. Just takes desire and ability to make the best with what you have.

Thanks to everyone who commented... Please do give money to charity, but here is the reality:

Your can't make a video that is going to get you anywhere on a shoe string budget...which is why none of bands who make shoe string budget videos or records get anywhere. It is a viscous cycle, call us crazy for for wanting to do things the right way and enlisting our friends and fans to help but it has worked out pretty well so far for us...the site has only been live for three days and we are a roughly a quarter of the way to paying for the video (we had a fan who we have helped in the past give us a big chunk of cash yesterday), We are going to keep doing what do and loving every minute of it.

Its good Karma to help people, even if it is something as frivolous as a music video...the person who is making the video might be someone like myself who has ACTUALLY given money to charity, and has ACTUALLY gone to third world countries and worked at an AIDS hospice. Actions speak louder than words, especially on the internet... my actions are pretty loud-

Much Love and Respect-
Shawn-

Sorry, not buyin' it, bro.

And don't get me wrong, man. I think your music is awesome!

But I still insist you can make a video for 5 bux!

You just need a killer IDEA!

p.s. I worked in advertising on major brands for 16 years in NYC. I art directed multi million dollar shoots and also ones that were ultra cheap to produce. Let me tell you, the cheap ones are just as good, if not better than the big buck ones. Why? Because the their concepts were better. Find a new director who's into music. Or just shoot it yourselves. The $1500 you just raised can pay for crafts service. I know plenty of bands that have pulled off shootin' bids for next too nothing. You just have to come up with a concept that's best shot simply.

Got an IDEA for ya -- just as an example. Look here later... I gotta get some more sleep before a big meeting tomorrow.

Trust me we have a great concept, the guy making our video is 2nd unit cinematographer on THE AVENGERS, and has done videos for Puddle of Mudd, of lots of other bands that actually get played on video networks...and if you worked on these things you should know that 4K for lights, camera rental, director fee, crew members, staging, editor, travel expenses, pyro etc is a shoe string budget. most bands who make videos that actually get played on MTV2 and Fuse spend in the neighborhood of 15k on then (trust me I talked to about ten legit directors, and about twenty bands), so the fact that you are making a big deal about this is kind of amusing...it is going to cost almost as much just to press a vinyl...but you don't seem to be saying anything about that :) ...

and furthermore lets say we did just make this ourselves buying a Cannon 7d DSL and the lenses we need would cost in the neighborhood of $2500-$5000 depending on the lenses etc. so in then end how is that cheaper?

Again Love and Respect-
Shawn-

OK I am going to be DICK:

1.) WHY is there always some jackass who posts something about WILDSTEET on these threads... SERIOUSLY stop it! Are you blowing one of the guys in the band, their video looks like Sh!+ and you can tell it shot on the cheap, and what the hell does that have to do with this post, they got Jim Florentine...NEAT...who is going to play that video? I am glad they got it done but and they made a video but stop posting crap about then on every post for the LOVE OF GOD! Plus I met them at Rocklahoma and their singe is a Douche, dude ignored me when I was talking to him.

2.) Why are you people sitting on here ripping on every single thing that Allyson posts...GET OVER YOURSELVES! for the love of GOD... There are tons of indi-rock bands using IndieGoGo and and Kick Starter for the same thing... More of them for pressing vinyl, but don't see anybody giving them static for it, These guys are a good band, and seem like nice guys... Hook them up or shut the FCUK up...

I Agree with Jimbo, I met the dudes from Wild Steet at a show in Cleveland. That dude was a Dick-

Whatever ... It was me who mentioned Wildstreet. It was VERY relevant to this post to point out that a video can be made for next to nothing. Tell ya what.. KIX made the "Midnite Dynamite" video on a shoestring budget (paid for it themselves).

I for one am interested in Metalboy's idea. I hope he does post it. It is evident just listening to some of these bands who are popular today that talent isn't always the most important thing. EVERYTHING always starts with an IDEA.

Good luck to this band with the video. If the IDEA isn't good all the money in the world isn't going to help.

F-CK the concept, if it's gonna cost ya 7500 smackers!

I worked with a producer out in L.A. on a commercial for a major soft drink brand. One of the music videos, among many, he produced was Crue's "Looks That Kill".

He told me no one got payed and no one made a dime. They did it for their resumes.

Tell the director to do it for his reel or get someone else.

Or better yet shoot it yourselves with frickin' iPhones. It's called raw and real and it will work, trust me.

Here's the idea:

The name of the song in question is "Party Girls", right?

So, shoot a live performance at one of your favorite nite clubs in or near your hometown. Get all the hottest chicks you know to join you on stage frolicking around, dancin' and singin' -- all that sh-t. I mean, you guys (and the chix) just go frickin'
apesh-t with it!

Then go out and film women of all ages shapes and sizes singin' the lyrics. Beauty queens and former beauty queens, a waitress, a checkout chick, a stripper upside down on a poll, nuns, a doctor, a receptionist behind her desk, little old ladies in nursing homes, Hooters chicks, biker chicks, a ladies bowling league, a chick waterskiing, a lifeguard, a librarian, punk chicks, goth chicks, lesbians, a chick drag racer, a bartendress, a hairstylist, a female welder, moms, sisters, aunts, Grandmas, etc., etc.

Shoot it guerilla and knock it out fast. Hell, if every member divided and conquered armed with a PDA with a camera, you guys could bang this out in a week. You guys could even shoot yourselves with your subjects in some of the shots simply by holding up the camera facing you and your girl to capture both of you singin' along.

Then download it all and edit it in Final Cut Pro, the same sh-t every movie is edited on these days. do lots of quick cuts to sustain the energy of the song.

The result will be REAL, hip, fun, relevant and filled with irony and humor.

Hey, it's just an example of what you guys can do for 5 bux, your time and the favors of friends and family. My guess is the real spirit of it's creation would shine through because of all your genuine effort that went into it. That shows up on film and done right, that's what can get attention!
June 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Oh, and don't; forget the drag queens, hahaha!!!
