Bret Michaels and Loretta Lynn Record Duet
Bret Michaels is working on a duet with country music legend Loretta Lynn. Yeah, you read that correctly. Michaels and Lynn will rerecord 'Ever Rose Has Its Thorn.'
He rerecorded that song a couple years ago with Miley Cyrus, too. I guess he's trying to get some mileage out of that decades old tune, eh?
The remake of 'Rose' will be included as a bonus track on Michaels' upcoming album 'Get Your Rock On.' Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen, My Darkest Days guitarist Sal Costa and Jimmy Buffett will also guest on the record.

Absent a consumer base equaling anything close to Metallica or Motley Crue, Michaels has to work any angle he can: re-re-recording (the impromptu "Rock of Love" sessions don't count as proper recordings) his band's biggest hit, hitching a ride alongside other nostalgia acts like Crue or Leppard, etc.
If he is smart, he will ask Collen for tips on how to work the DVD/Work-out scenario into the mix. "Abs of Love" anyone?
He is clearly trying to sustain a brand. He is the logo and mascot and this song is the theme. Clearly, "Unskinny Bop" wouldn't appeal to his base anymore . . . the men have left the building. And the sad fact is, Poison are now one of his house bands.

It's funny, all his ideas are so gratuitous and designed to appeal to the most extreme dumbed down lowest common denominator.
Jack White produces Country Legend, Loretta Lynn's Grammy Winning album, "Van Leer Rose", assembling a crack band, producing, writing and performing on the album with her and it's genius.
Bret Michaels teams up with the poor woman for a duet of his "Ultimate Power Ballad" and it looks like a shameless coattail ride.
Of course the outcome could be different had he shown some class and gone the Jack White route and would have let Lynn take front and center and stayed off the record. Still, she's so incredible, she may save it AND, in turn, him on the song.
This is the last step towards Bret Michael's completing his transition from Hair Sprayed Glam Metal Rocker to Country Singer he has yearned for ever nice he donned his cowboy hat, never taking it off except for his brain operation.
I was really hopin' that scare would have re-energized him to focus on writing new material for a new Poison album. Instead, all we get is a Country Wannabee who barely gives his own iconic career in Rock'n'Roll the time of day.
This guy totally lacks self respect as well as respect for Poison AND Poison fans everywhere.
No one gives a crap about your solo stuff or your redos of old material.
What I do have a problem with is him not doing anything new and trying to capitilize on stuff he did 20 years ago. Old news gets tiring. That's why I have no interest in seeing him or Poison again, unless they do something new. Doesn't have to be different, just new. Pathetic.
All of us try to live in the past to some extent. If we didn't, festivals like M-3 would never happen. Even those who want a new Poison release want it to sound like the "old" Poison.
I say record it as many times as you want and as in as many styles as you want... I can't believe I just defended Bret Michaels.
