Michael Angelo Batio Presents 'Hands without Shadows – A Tribute to Rock Guitar'

If you are a fan of guitar greats, this may interest you. Guitarist Michael Angelo Batio is doing a special tribute show in honor of guitar heroes. This is cool because pretty much all the guitarists we love will be represented during the tribute. 

HOLLYWOOD, CA (May 3, 2012) - Legendary shredder Michael Angelo Batio will take over Detroit’s Token Lounge with his newly devised show: “Hands without Shadows – A Tribute to Rock Guitar.” This show is a multimedia extravaganza featuring the music of some of the greatest rock guitarists of the past 50 years. Batio will also be giving away an autographed MAB 3 guitar the night of the Token Lounge performance!

Guitar legend and virtuoso, Michael Angelo Batio, takes you on his 90 minute aural/visual journey to the different eras of rock music while playing guitars with incredible speed and musical precision. The “Hands without Shadow’s – A Tribute to Rock Guitar" show entails an awesome display of guitar wizardry accompanied by an equally talented band. This chronological tribute features Batio’s incredible arrangements and medley’s from the different eras of rock beginning with Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, then moving on to Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Metallica and more.

The brilliant, fast paced multimedia experience is completed with multiple video screens, incredible lighting, on stage theatrics and of course the amazing guitar work of the “#1 Shredder of all time” (Guitar One Magazine), Michael Angelo Batio. You will be introduced to Batio’s “MAB Over – Under” neck technique along with his famous Double-Guitar. Michael’s Dean “Jet” Double-Guitar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in February 2012. Michael invented the Double-Guitar and is credited with being the first person to play both left and right handed at the same time.

Oh, how I wish I could see this. Batio is over the top.

That video is hilarious. There are so many reasons why, but I'll give just one word to describe the most obvious: "Poodle."

Nitro was the band that pushed the whole 80's hair-band thing past ridiculous and into absurdity. I can only speculate, but I think that it was after seeing videos like this that a large segment of the population decided that there might be other kinds of music they'd like to start listening to, thus ushering in the mid-90's and the flood of grunge and alt-rock.

Batio is a technical wizard (of a sort), but I never heard a solo of his that made any sense whatsoever, especially in the context of the song it was ostensibly part of.

And I'm speaking as someone who loved, and still loves, the genre in which this band operated.

Geez, man. I think Nitro was awesome. And killarious. Where's your sense of humor? You sure you guys don't belong over on Noisecreep or some Pearl Jam fan blog or sumthin'?

It is true that when Batio (laboriously) whips out that four-necked guitar, all I can think of is Spinal Tap. It's amazing that it wasn't done there first. The difference is, I'm reasonably sure that Nitro was serious. Or, at least, as serious as any late-80's, coked-up hair-rock band could be.

No way, were they serious. They were havin' a nice p*ss, as The Britz like to say. That becomes pretty evident when you listen to the music and look at the hair, the get-ups and their stagecraft.

It's a pretty good guess, though, that they must have been dead serious about being THE most OVER-THE-TOP Hair Metal band in L.A., if not the world.
