Meat Riot - 'Hot Mess'

I first saw the Jack in the Box Meat Riot commercial in Las Vegas a week ago. We don't have Jack in the Box where I live in Ohio, so the commercial was completely new to me. We all stood around the hotel room television, sort of mesmerized. My husband just reminded me of Meat Riot and suggested I pop the commercial up here. Well, in looking for the commercial... I found something better: Meat Riot's official full length video for "Hot Mess."

Sad thing is, this is a parody... and sounds way better than most anything else on the radio these days. Behold.

Allyson, I live in San Diego, the home of Jack In The Box. They have a very long history of awesome commercials. During the boy band craze of the mid 90s, they had a mock boy band called the Meaty Cheesy Boys, complete with their own web site. Their food isn't anything spectacular, but their ad people are geniuses.

Whomever directed that video did a bang-up job of nailing the vibe of the videos from that era. Ditto the actors.

It seems I am always a bit too early or a bit too late to the conversation . . . this sits perfectly next to the Miracle Whip ad, one in a long line of parody videos.

And I have to repeat: note the homage to "Home Sweet Home" before the "how I met your mom" comment.

As Bob notes, they are pretty good at picking themes and using them to carve out a niche. A pretty good attempt to swoop in and overtake Taco Bell's "Fourth Meal" concept:

Pretty darn funny.
