Metallica To Play Heavy Montreal

Metallica will play their only North American date this summer at the Heavy Montreal festival, August 8-10. I'm not super keen on the rest of the lineup, but there are some good bands sprinkled here and there. Tickets go on sale Friday.

Killer lineup!! This is as metal as it gets. There is some bands on there that I do not like but Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Overkill, Body Count and Three Days Grace are great. Overkill should be a headliner though in my opinion. Overkill is one of the best bands on there.

The only bands really worth catching in this line-up are Overkill, Offspring and D.R.I.

Unless you're into being bored to tears while pretending a band is good.

Dropkick Murphys is a band on my "second" bucketlist; meaning if I see the bands on my first list, I revert to my second list. One band that was on my first list that I never got to see live, though I had a few chances and declined, would've been great as one of the headliners on this bill: The Ramones.

Overkill's singer is a little too whiney sounding for me but any bill with 75% of the big 4, is alright with me!

Offspring? Thanks for the chuckle Metalboy!

Overkill is definitely the band to see in that lineup, and I'm not just saying that because I grew up in Jersey. :) Overkill has been doing it as long as anybody, and has never compromised to the extent that many of those other bands did over the years, yet they still don't get the credit they deserve. Overkill's been keeping it real for more than 30 years.

Granted, though they are "Punk Pop", Offspring are a Metal band in board shorts. Just listen to their first album or "Ixnay On The Hombre". One of the coolest and funniest album titles ever.

If anyone has any doubts about the greatness of Overkill, check out their cover of The Dead Boys' classic, "Sonic Reducer", the original of which was recently featured, including footage of them performing at CBGB's in '77, on a Sonos commercial.

You'll easily find the performance in a video on YouTube. As you will find, THIS is Rock & Roll!
