'Ride Like the Wind' versus 'Ride the Wind'

Last night, Christopher Cross' "Ride Like the Wind" popped randomly into my head. The track is amazing and features Michael McDonald, too. So picture it: I'm going about my business, humming the tune and then my mind wandered to Poison's "Ride the Wind." So then I decided to mentally compare the two. Most folks know that "Ride the Wind" is my favorite Poison song. But I've always loved "Ride Like the Wind" and I think the lyrics are better in general. I've seen both acts live -- I'll give the edge to Poison in that department, but really there's no arguing with Cross' voice -- he was darn impressive to watch. Which do you prefer?

I'm gonna butter you with this: I love this site. I love "glam" or whatever you want to call it.

Now, for the reality, more times than not, you're YouTube links are dead. For this post, I get white space followed by a view on YouTube link, white space, another link. I click on the link and get "This video does not exist". This is more PSA than complaint, because I can usually find the video referenced.

Imma go with Poison. One of my favorites by them. Perfect for summer. They killed it when I saw them live. Love it!

The site is bring back glam, not bring back easy listening. Clearly, Poison is the winner here.

Neither.

I prefer to be..."Riding on the wiiiiiind!"

"Priest priest priest priest!"

Alyson, don't forget JP here on BBG. Turbo was their attempt to blend in with glam back in 1986. Their catalogue of tunes with melody and fun choruses puts them in the BBG world for me.:)

I like both. Cannot really compare. Poisons video is so cool and it takes me back to college days at Clarion University of PA. Talk about partying at the Frat houses w some kick ass music back in the years from 1988-1991. My goodness. Glam and Metal glory days.

To be completely honest, that is one of my least favorite Poison songs, and I've always liked 'Ride Like the Wind' since I was a kid, so in this case (only!), the edge would surprisingly go to Christopher Cross. But overall, Poison wins exponentially!

I think the video errors are more a device issue, less the site.
It seems if you're using an Apple product, you can see the clips easier. Still, I reloaded the videos using a windows desktop and you should be able to see them now. - Allyson

oper8n is correct about the clear winner on this site. that being said...

where eagles and angels dare to fly...'nuff said.

I wish more of my contemporaries and many of the up and comers would dare...

I'm gonna " touch the midnight sun" on this one too. And Kixchix,I too am a huge Priest fan from way back. Check out the 2 songs they have streaming online for their upcoming release,"Redeemer Of Souls". The title track and "March Of The Damned" both kick major ass,IMO.

That is one of my fave Poison songs, & just say no to Christopher Cross. Lol. Im also looking forward to the new Priest release, but they are/have in no way ever been glam. Turbo was just a weak record.

I liked Turbo a lot. It had a different sound for them but I don't consider it weak at all, personally. Turbo Lover is still one of my most favourite songs.

Glad to hear there is more Priest material on the way.

Huh-uh-lo-oh!

smknotsmf and GNR got it right...

This should have been a comparison of Cross' original Ride Like The Wind" VS. Saxon's fully Metalized version which also aces "Ride The Wind" by Poison AND Priest's "Riding On The Wind".

And, BK, I'm with Rita... "Turbo" is a GREAT Record, right up there with their best.

p.s. As far as whether Priest could be considered GLAM, they have definitely had GLAM leanings at times, "Turbo", in particular. And when you think about it, they are more GLAM than any GLAM Metal band for one obvious reason which I don't think I have to spell out to anyone here. ; )

I just listened to Saxon's version and Christopher Cross's version. I was familiar with Cross's version, though I haven't heard it in a very long time. I never heard Saxon's version until today. I think Cross's output is better.

It doesn't need to be over the top to be good. It, simply, needs to be good. I found the simple life...ain't so simple...
