Holiday Plans?

Americans, summer is officially upon us. Memorial Day is Monday, and that's when my favorite season really kicks off.

Most notably Rocklahoma is going down in Pryor, Oklahoma this weekend. I'm jealous of everyone headed to the fest! A lot of other summer tours are going to be kicking off and kicking into high gear - it always seems like summer just absolutely flies by and before you know it, it's snowing again. So who has great plans this weekend? I'm personally excited that pools will be opening and Kings Island (an amusement park close to me) will finally be on daily operation. Yes, I'm a perpetual 12 year old!

Have a great Friday and holiday weekend!

I think I'll just get hammered drunk and light stuff on fire this weekend.

Little will the yuppies at the faux country club community pool know I will be crankin' Crue's epic "Too Fast For Love" album non-stop on my iPod while lounging in the sun.

There's only one way to beat those plans, MB. That'd be by instead listening to Shout at the Devil!

Metalboy!, when cranking Too Fast for Love, make sure you're cranking the original Leathur Records version. As for me, I live in San Diego where the difference in daytime temperature between Summer and Winter is maybe 10 degrees, (don't hate.) Anyway, I'm sure my long weekend will include plenty of ice cold beer and red hot tunes while soaking up the San Diego sunshine. I hope everybody has a great holiday. Much love and great music to all of you!

..since you mentioned amusement parks in your post...given where I am in my life (two small kids..5 and 2)..I'm not able to make any rock concerts to speak off..but...my 5 year old just cleared 48 inches tall..so she will be tall enough to ride most of the roller coasters at a few of the close parks where I live..so..very happy about that.....yes..Summer is here!-Gene

Hey, Gene... You'll still be ROCKIN'! You know how much 80's Glam Metal gets cranked through the Muzak in those theme parks! You'll be good to go AND so will your family!

Happy Metal Memorial Day, Everyone!

p.s. Indeed, Bob. I have the 2nd Press on vinyl but wish I had the 1st! Since there were only 900 pressed that's cost prohibitive, as they go for about $3,500 these days and I was stupidly not in on it back then.

I did, however, buy the Elektra 8-Track upon it's release in '81, which, granted, is not the original Leathur mix but is testimony to the fact that I was rockin' to Crue in '81!!!

And here I am still rockin' to that album on the eve of my Birthday, having come full circle from my 21st Birthday, the year it came out.

Musically, the better version is the 2003 Re-release with not only the original mix, but additional tracks including non-LP singles and B-sides, the standout of which is their phenomenal cover of The Raspberries' "Tonight".

Metalboy!, my friend, happy early birthday! Good call on Crue's cover of "Tonight." the vocal harmonies in the Crue's version are surprisingly good. I wonder why they didn't do more of that in their own songs. Honestly, I never got why Electra made so many changes to the original mix, especially eliminating full intros and outtros, and leaving "Stick to Your guns" off the album all together. I was 12 when the original version came out and I clearly remember hearing it played on one of the local college radio stations...Simply a pioneering album that was a good two years ahead of its time.
