Would You Pay For This?

We're all super fans here. We love music, still pay for songs instead of stealing, go to shows, and fly around the world to attend festivals. In March, a bunch of musicians we idolize will join forces at Mandaly Bay in Las Vegas for Masters of Metal. It costs up to $6,500 a person. That doesn't include your hotel stay, either. So admit it: would you do this? It's cool as can be and equals bragging rights forever, but man, what an expense.

If It didn't cost as much as a good used car when all is said and done, I'd love to go to one of these. But until they price it so that more than rich Doctors, lawyers, executives and Wall Street types, most of whom know 3 chords on a guitar, but have a shit ton of disposable income can attend,I'll pass. Could I afford it? Thanks to a decent job with unlimited overtime, yeah, I could. But I'd rather help my daughters by paying their student loans and helping them out in financial emergencies, rather than flushing ten grand to play rock star for a week with guys who really don't need the money. It'd be way cool, but for ten grand I want Micheale Schenker to come to my house, and leave his equipment behind when he goes. Lol

Great post, Gary. A few years back, Schenker probably would have left his stuff at your house!

I love seeing Schenker on stage. Enjoyed Hughes on the Sabbath album. Amazed, and grateful, they are both still around. But, like Gary, there are better things to use my money on that this camp.

Sure, if money was no object . . . no, still don't think it is my cup of tea. I'd rather see them live with friends than noodle around with them. But that is just me.

Which brings me to Ward. Of the three, he is the one I am most impressed by . . . for his legacy with Sabbath and for the job he does bringing new music to the masses on his show. I also happen to think that the situation with the reunion was handled poorly, by all involved, and that he ended up getting thrown under a bus (I know, I know, I know . . . his health issues were/are legion and he has bailed in the past on the fellows).

What's my point? To support him, since I can't see him at gigs, I bought some of his art. A discretionary purchase that now proudly hangs on my wall. A small, anonymous, gesture that more directly links me, to my way of thinking, to Ward and my appreciation for his role in my musical life for all these years.

Well, i like to dl music. Sorry if i dont wanna pay $11-12 for a.cd.that may or may not even be worth $2. There are exceptions however, with bands that i know will always deliver regardless.

OK - I surely wouldn't do this, but if you had similar access at the Swedish Rock Festival - that would be a tough decision.

It seems that Bill Ward isn't allowed to mention that he was in Black Sabbath?

to answer your question: No.

Even if the line up was david lee roth, tom keifer and eddie van halen, because I "am" delusional and narcissistic enough to believe that I can teach them a few things about how to rock-n-roll, coupled with what HIM and Gary stated above.

If I was a guitarist or drummer and had the bread, I would go as what you could learn from Schenker and Ward would be HUGE!

^^^that's how I felt, at one time, too.

Tony, have you heard that for a fact (oh-oh, there is that word again) or are you just wondering if it is true? I would hate to think that was the case and assume the latter given the "?" at the end.

If it was his choice, however, that would be a ballsy move from a class act who, again, really shows a deep appreciation for a lot of different rock/metal music on his show.

I am one of those "rich" doctors with some disposable income, and I know approximately 8 chords. I would not go to this, or something like this for that price. I also have three kids that will need to go to college. BTW, in order to get where I am, I did five years of college, four years of med school, five years of general surgery (averaging over 100 hours per week in the hospital), two years of research, a year of critical care, and two years of pediatric surgery. For you non-mathletes, that is 19 years after high school. When I got my first job, I was nearly 37 years old, had several hundred thousand dollars worth of student loans (still do), and would not do anything else in the world. I'm glad to have the ability to play my eight or so chords during my little bit of free time. So piss off, sir.
