Glam Metal Confession Time

It's time for a new round ofGlam Metal Confessions. Every so rarely, I'll publicly admit something embarrassing relating to my knowledge (or lack thereof) of Glam. Today... I'll admit I had no idea magician Criss Angel was once a singer in a Glam band. I always knew he was a fan of metal and Glam... but once a performer? Nah.

So then I get passed this little video below. It's of the song "Do You Want My Love" and in the clip, Criss sort of sounds like Poison (but not as good) and does a ton of magic tricks. Let's just say I'm glad the magic worked out for him. Absurd.

Reminds me of the New Jersey glam band "Monroe" , only not as good.

One thing is for sure, Criss Angel had big money backing him from day one. Huge lit sign, effects, costumes...big money. I don't think its that bad at all. He's not a very good singer but sounds just as good/almost as good as several others from that time period....for the genuine glam type bands. Not much different than the guy in Tuff or the guy in Pretty Boy Floyd in my opinion. You don't like glam bands (for the most part) for the range of the singer's voice. There are exceptions of course but he doesn't sound that bad. Hey Bret Michaels can't really sing either, he just has the sales to warrant a professional studio to aide him. Bet Criss would sound better in a pro studio. Anyways...song is decent....he and his band had the right look for sure.

Ace, if you can, please help me jog my old memory...Do you remember if Monroe opened up for somebody big in the 80s? I could swear I saw Monroe opening up for a big act around '84 or '85 at the old Meadowlands.

First of all, this may very well be one of THE most unintentionally funny things ever committed to VHS! This a*sclown has always been annoying and here he proves that distinction could have been made long ago.

Gotta hand it to him for his choreography and stagecraft, though. As corny and hilarious as it is, it still demonstrates incredible talent.

p.s. Ace & Bob -- Are you sure guys don't mean Monro, the British AOR act from 1987?

Only thing good is his hair. Horrible song, horrible acting..Seems he comes from money as that is a big $$$ production for an amateur band/magician

MetalBoy, No, I was definitely talking about the Jersey band that I left a link to their only video that I know about....

And Bob, I forwarded your question to my old "Joisey Girlfriend"... I'll have a definitive answer for you, later.

Hey Spyke, if the only good thing was the hair . . . well, that's gone now too! Some call it male pattern baldness; I call it MAGIC!

And the credits read like a list of associates who work at Goomba's Plumbing and Supply Store, right next to Gotti's Pizzeria. Hmm? Wonder where all that funding came from? I kid.

Did anyone else hear "On With the Show" in the intro guitar work? Minute I heard the guitar, right after he slid across the stage a la Bret, the words "Frankie died just the other night . . ." popped into my brain-case. I know. I know. Probably just me.

Chris Angel's band played around in the late 80s-early 90s on Long island NY....for sure...had some money to make the show what it was. ..as others said...I didn't think too much about the songs..but..hey..i give the guy credit for keeping it going..for those that have tried..nothing is ever handed to ya...

That was ridiculous.

Him,I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. It's pretty much spot on but with the tempo booted up a notch. Allyson, thanks for this as I had zero idea he ever played with a band. And yeah, some serious coin was put into the making of that little extravaganza...

Well that makes two of us, Gary! Thanks for confirming what I heard. It was the strangest thing. Almost instantly I heard the Crue, which is odd considering the mash-up of visual borrowings going on in that video.

Bob, I got an answer for ya... Biggest gig Monroe played was opening for Twisted @ their "SMF Friends of Twisted Sister" party @ the Fountain Casino. A far cry from Meadowlands!
