The Best Of 1985: #9

Congrats! If you were born in 1985, you're now 30. Seems like a great time to look back on my favorite 9 videos that came out in 1985... an amazing 30 years ago. In case you're wondering, I chose a top 9 countdown, because everyone does top 10 lists!

Today, #9: "In and Out of Love" by Bon Jovi.

I wasn't born in 1985, but I graduated high school that year. Does that count? Great start to your countdown. This is a great video and a reminder that Bon Jovi actually did rock back in the day.

85 was a great year... Tons of great music! In & Out of Love is probably my favorite Bon Jovi tune.

Since were telling our age I graduated in 85 as well and saw Bon Jovi open for RATT that year! I bought the first Bon Jovi album just cause I thought it might be good based off the cover. Being raised in the sticks has many disadvantages. I escaped as soon as possible. Great Video look forward to the rest of the list.

Growing up in NJ, and being a long-haired rocker in the 80s, Bon Jovi was the bane of my existence. Whenever I'd visit other places, I can't tell you how many times I heard, "Oh, you're from New Jersey? You must love bon Jovi." Aside from "In and Out of Love", which is a decent tune, about the only other thing they did right was help to get Cinderella signed.

I graduated high school in 1987 ( my daughter graduated yesterday: 2015) and music back then was amazing. I'm sure it had to do with my age, but I will always point to this era as being The Best. Liked Bon Jovi...did not love them. Saw Cinderella open for them in Pittsburgh and thought they were amazing. Been a huge fan of Cinderella ever since.

I was already 22 when this hit the airwaves. Lol. About the best song they ever did. It actually made me go ahead and buy Slippery When Wet when it came out the following year (which was the last album of his I'd ever buy, although I also thought Bad Medicine was a good song from New Jersey)

85 was a bit before my time, but the best video is Smokin' In The Boys Room. Yeah, the song was a cash grab and kinda cheesy, but it's one of my favorite Crue videos. Cheesy as he'll, but hilarious! As far as Bon Jovi goes, nothing good came after New Jersey, I'll crank the first few albums though! Great pick, would love to see the rest of your list.

3 good songs courtesy Desmond Child. Half of "Slippery When Wet" is the pinnacle.

Metalboy's totally on point. By the 3rd record, Bon Jovi had started phoning it in, & relying on "song factories" like Desmond Child & Holly Knight to write for them... OR taking Child's already created songs like "If You Were A Woman & I Was A Man" , changing the lyrics & re-christening it as a whole new song, like "You Give Love A Bad Name".

"Does Anyone Really Fall In Love Anymore" is another sterling collaboration between Bon Jovi, Sambora, Child & Warren that wound up going to Cher and, ahem, Kayne Roberts, in his AOR bid at Pop Metal Stardom save for the fact that, as killer a guitarist as he is, they really threw him a bone he should have never bitten.

Of any song by Bon Jovi (and I was never that big of a fan), it was--like Ace so rightly notes--this song that made me sit up and listen. Nothing after this song, even before it, really hooked me like this one did.

Great start to what I am sure will be a fun list, Allyson. Thanks for sparking conversation and memories for all of us!
